Feb 28th 2012 11:19AM the zones are massive. try to find some of the comparisons they did at blizzcon showing relative size compared to Twilight Highlands.
But, just for the sake of the argument, cataclysm had less zones because they had some 'other' massive thing they were working on (1-60 rehaul) so could it be that MoP has less zones because there's some 'other' thing we aren't aware of yet?

Jan 27th 2012 12:47PM Drakkenfyre, your argument saying, "every lame movie gets slurpee cups, so should blizzard" is completely false. What you fail to realize is just because you think a movie is a bad movie, doesn't mean it has no money behind it.
A majority of the movies that are released, yes including terrible ones, have large studios behind at least the distribution and marketing. And for every million dollars they spend on marketing a movie, even the lame ones, they will see a return. Watching movies is something that practically everyone does with varying frequency.
Let's make up some numbers for the sake of the argument. Let's pretend 90% of the people in the US will see a movie once in the next 3 weeks, and let's say one in every 10 people are open to playing video games, and that's probably being generous.
So for 100% of the people buying a slurpee with a movie title on it, 90% of them will see a movie and now have exposure to it. For 100% of the people buying a slurpee with a video game on it, 90% of them would never even consider playing a video game..
So don't make sweeping generalizations. As I said in an earlier post, the AMPM plan is a very safe way to play it for going after markets that they don't normally even have exposure to. If they see a jump in numbers they'll probably do more things like this..
I think the real point is that this is a marketing campaign to get exposure..not a campaign to make a collectible for all the current players, that's just a bonus for AMPM.
Jan 27th 2012 12:38PM I'm sorry, but I think you're all missing the point...
As stated in the article, Blizzard is going after ancillary audiences by promoting the game in venues that are outside of their normal scope of marketing. At the same time Blizzard has been posting a drop in number and has cut an extremely expensive convention in order to focus on the development and release of new content/games. The point is, they're being smart and saving money.
Now, even if you don't have any knowledge of marketing, I'm sure you can come up with the answer. Which do you think costs more money? A cross-promotion with 7-11, a company that exists in 16 countries, or with AMPM, existing in only 12 states.
The point is, when going after a smaller market you're not expecting huge returns on investment, they're just fishing, so they're not going to spend the money to go worldwide or even nationwide. They're going to play it safe and see how it plays out. If they get a surge in numbers, we'll probably see more campaigns like this through other, larger markets.

Jan 2nd 2012 12:30PM I always used to use the mobile authenticator because I figured i'd always have my phone. Then i got the dongle from blizzcon. Honestly, the only reason i chose one over the other was because the dongle has less numbers in the code than the mobile authenticator.
