The Soapbox: Playing alone together {Massively}

Oct 27th 2010 2:02PM Great article. As primarily a soloer you summed my feelings up pretty well. I have limited time so grouping is a major pain unless I know the people and we all have the time set aside beforehand. Most of the time I just want to do my own thing though.

Its not like I hate teaming up with other people. In WoW I enjoyed endgame PvP which is pretty casual grouping but lead to lots of great memories. In Wizard101 its fun to join or be joined in random street battles. In LotRO though I am solo almost all the time. I never tried Warhammer or Guild Wars but it sounds like they had interesting takes on some of the grouping issues that come up in other games.

Somewhere down the line an MMO will come out that blurs the line between solo and grouping so that groups form more naturally rather than being prearranged things.

Breakfast Topic: Shunning the Endgame? {WoW}

Jul 21st 2009 8:58AM @Clevins
Lol - its not hypocrisy but the hate is pretty real. "Casuals are ruining the game" and "the game is being dumbed down for casuals" are phrases used by lots of folks in the raiding community. Forum posts of all kinds are full of them. Anytime something is done for the game that makes casual play more fun these kinds of comments show up in droves.

So, while its not hypocrisy it is backlash. If you really think that raiders are these nice folks who just post their opinions and are attacked unjustly by the non-raiding community then must not read online forums much.

Realm maintenance for July 14th {WoW}

Jul 14th 2009 7:51AM I always hope it will just be rolling restarts or just down for a few hours. It used to be that way but now its pretty much down for 8 hours every Tuesday.

I understand the frustration of the Oceanic players too since the couple of hours in the early morning before work is the only chance I have to play (4am to 7am pacific). Lets just hope there isnt more downtime tomorrow.

Breakfast Topic: Do you wish we didn't have to use AddOns? {WoW}

Jul 7th 2009 9:11AM @sephirah
I don't use addons and I have leveled a main to 80 and several alts into their 70s.

Oh, and I have a real life too. Wife, kid, corporate job, house - and guess what, its not a problem when you manage what time you have to play.

So yeah, Sephirah, I guess you are just lazy. Who are you to judge how others spend their free time?

Breakfast Topic: Would you change your faction? {WoW}

Jul 1st 2009 12:00PM Same here with my Tauren Hunter. I would really miss TB and Mulgore but I would head over to the Alliance in a heartbeat if I could. I just dont like the Forsaken and doing quests that help them out. As it is I do as few of their quests as possible.

Exploring Azeroth with quest icons on the map {WoW}

Yep, there is a difference between the two types you described. The "useful" Raid add-ons you are talking about make the game (or at the very least raid encounters) EASIER. If any addon improves your chances of success with a part of the game it is making the game easier.

The "useless" ones you described just make the game more convenient.

Personally, I am all for improved convenience when its offered as an in-game resource by Blizzard.

Solo Hunters can also get phat lootz {WoW}

Jun 16th 2009 1:30PM I have never tried a warpstalker but that sounds interesting. My 80 Hutner is using a turtle and I am finding that its Shell Shield ability is a really useful for pet tanking.

Solo Hunters can also get phat lootz {WoW}

Jun 16th 2009 8:33AM @Deadlock
You need to Google the terms Solo+MMO and read some of the results. The arguments for doing it are all out there - so are the comments by ignorant players who cant understand other playstyles.

I solo on a Hunter, Paladin and Death Knight. Limited time online (as in half-hour bits) is why I do it. Oh, and because its also a challenge to get all you can from a class on your own. Soloing instances where the mobs are green to you is not easy.

The Maelstrom: Lore behind the possible next WoW expansion {WoW}

Jun 12th 2009 11:39AM That is a really good point about getting more players into the mid-level zones by introducing new races.

Also, I dont know why new races would be that much of a problem in a balance sense. I mean, if post on class forums for info on the "best" race for a particular class the answer is usually "whatever you like to look at".

Old Druid bear and cat form models removed in patch 3.2 {WoW}

Jun 10th 2009 7:36PM Maybe this will allow Horde hunters to tame Ursangous.

The old druid forms (both sides) could make interesting hunter pets but I dont know why any hunter would want the old Tauren cat form.
