Cataclysm dispel mechanics {WoW}

Apr 6th 2010 8:28AM The next announcement from Zarhym:

"We wanted to introduce some of the changes to totem mechanics coming in Cataclysm. Our goal is to make sure there is more equity in totem capabilities among all classes. At this stage we feel it is unfair that Shaman have four totems and other classes have one.

In Cataclysm each class will be getting one type of totem. This design makes sure that finding a character with the ability to drop totems isn't restrictive in building teams for Arenas or rated Battlegrounds. It also allows the encounter designers to assume, when designing dungeon or raid fights, that every character can drop a totem.

We are providing totem capabilities to all classes as follows:

* Death Knights will be able to drop Totem of the Dead Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Druids will be able to drop Totem of the Wild Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Hunters will be able to drop Totem of the Ferocious Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Mages will be able to drop Totem of the Burger Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Paladins will be able to drop Totem of the Facerolling Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Priests will be able to drop Totem of the Holy Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Rogues will be able to drop Totem of the Hidden Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Shaman will be able to drop Totem of the Disenfranchised Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards (and absolutely, definitely not under any circumstances curing any poisons or disease effects).
* Warlocks will be able to drop Totem of the Demonic Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.
* Warriors will be able to drop Totem of the Furious Kings, providing a 1% buff to all attributes for party or raid members within 30 yards.

In other changes, keep an eye on the World of Warcraft Pet Store for the new Mini Thrall pet, coming soon at the low price of only $14.99. Mini Thrall will help out your raid by casting Heroism or Bloodlust whenever you right-click on him (10-minute cooldown applies)."

Breakfast Topic: How do you cope with burnout? {WoW}

Jun 18th 2009 8:44AM Midsummer Fire Festival starts this weekend, sitting out a seasonal achievement would be unthinkable!

Um, sorry, I meant:

Midsummer Fire Festival starts this weekend; sitting out a seasonal achievement would be unthinkable!

BigRedKitty: Trap-Dancing {WoW}

Jan 24th 2009 5:14PM Monotone? BRK has in my opinion the most expressive and interesting voice in the WoW podcasting world. I'd listen to him reading a combat log if I could :P

Survey reveals what twinks are all about {WoW}

Jan 19th 2009 10:43PM "So what you're saying stumps is, you want your PvP to be as unvaried and scripted as the PvE in in this game... any drooling button mashing kiddie should walk into any BG and wtfpwn people like equal level mobs out in the world."

You were the one drawing parallels between PvP and PvE. I was just showing how ridiculous they were.

You're also never going to win an argument when the only positions you will consider are the two extremes. There's an enormous grey area in between kiddies walking into any BG and wtfpwning people and being one-shotted the second you come across an opponent. Suggesting the latter is unhealthy doesn't mean the former is desired.

Survey reveals what twinks are all about {WoW}

Jan 19th 2009 9:25PM "Would you walk into the hardest instance in the all the game in green quest gear adn EXPECT to be the #1 DPS?"

The first available WSG for new characters is now being paralleled to the hardest instance in all the game? The ridiculousness of that analogy should tell you exactly why people are so turned off by what twinking has done to the PvP learning curve.

Would you expect to be able to run through the Wailing Caverns in green quest gear at level 19 and not get one-shotted by the first mob you come across? Of course you would. When you compare level 19 WSG to an actual level 19 instance, rather than "the hardest instance in all the game", surely the disparity becomes pretty obvious.

Mining mechanics changed, one hit per node {WoW}

Jan 7th 2009 6:26PM I expect we'll see a new phenomenon now, with folks tapping a copper node only to find a Rough Stone in it, the same way you sometimes find a treasure chest with all the good stuff removed and some worthless food left in there.

Previously, you had an incentive to remove the unwanted stone even if you didn't want it or bag space was tight, because you had to check whether there was more ore to be uncovered in subsequent hits, but now that you get it all in one go (like treasure chests), people will feel free to leave the stuff they don't want behind, to the great disappointment of any following gatherers.

Character Re-Customization available for a small fee [UPDATED] {WoW}

Dec 10th 2008 11:58PM I expect they don't allow race changes as unlike the others, race has an impact beyond the mere cosmetic. Some quests are only available to particular races (eg the final quest chain of the Draenei starting area with the tabard reward) -- would people be switching to Draenei to get that tabard, and then back again?

Zombie invasion phase 5 begins [Updated x5] {WoW}

Oct 26th 2008 9:06PM Maybe Blizzard needs to add a third server type in addition to Normal and RP -- slot machine, for those whiners who just want to press buttons and get loot and have no interest in having any fun with actual stories or events.
