Is the AirPort Extreme worth the price? {TUAW.com}

Apr 4th 2011 12:05PM I've got a few generations old Time Capsule, and I love it. I've had other routers, and they worked fine 99.99% of the time. This improves on that.

One thing I appreciate is that if you have Apple Care on your computer, it covers your Airport Express/Time Capsule. Here is the fine print from the Apple Care page

"The AirPort device or Time Capsule must be purchased up to two years before your Mac purchase or during the term of your AppleCare Protection Plan coverage."

That's rather generous. You can cover a two year old AE or TC? Not bad, and I'm buying Apple Care on either an iMac or a MBP.

QNAP's QMobile app enables multimedia NAS streaming to Android and iOS {Engadget}

Aug 8th 2010 10:44AM @spin cycle

Huh? That's the first I've heard of those issues. I'm an all Apple household, and as far as AFP being broken - well, it works for me. And the opportunities I've had to use SMB (friends, etc.), it's worked well enough.

As a comparison, my ReadyNAS was unstable, I was told to replace drives every time it would lock up, and one month out of warranty it died completely. It was a $700 brick, and I'll never buy ReadyNAS again. My QNAP (TS-509) is rock solid going on 14 months. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Aug 8th 2010 2:17AM I love my QNAP. It does a great job for what it is designed for (NAS.) This is a nice free update.

Handy Light for iPhone's dirty little secret: tethering (update) {Engadget}

Jul 20th 2010 8:51PM Just tried it - it works. Too bad I got rid of my unlimited data plan.

Life and death of Microsoft Kin: the inside story {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2010 4:38PM I'd be pissed if I owned MS stock. That's got to be a huge waste of money.

Sync Wars: Address Book vs. Google Contacts {TUAW.com}

May 22nd 2010 6:16PM I find MobileMe to be quite a good value, especially if you buy from someone other than Apple. I like the fact my data is backed up to the cloud - I hardly ever sync my phone, and it's the master record. Plus, I can add or change a contact, or add something to my calendar on my desktop, and it'll be sync'ed to my phone in a pretty short order. My wife and I have the Mobile Me family plan, so I know her stuff is backed up too (I'm willing to bet most everybody here is the head of IT for their household.)

I also find the "find my iPhone" functionality to be a nice safety net.

The Mail, iDisk, and other stuff all goes unused. Dropbox does a great job - iDisk doesn't compare.

Apr 16th 2010 3:34PM $99? Waaay overpriced.

Eye-Fi X2 series of 802.11n Class 6 cards ships today, AT&T WiFi hotspots added to the fold {Engadget}

I agree that these are a really great idea. However, of the two I tried, neither would work. I gave those two to other technical friends, and they had no success either. Except for that it's a really good idea.

Wintergrasp defense / offense on unbalanced realms {WoW}

Dec 17th 2009 1:38PM Hey - I resemble that remark. I consider myself an intelligent Alliance player. I've got 12 toons between my wife and I. Ain't no way I'm moving, unless I win some sort of lottery.

Dec 17th 2009 1:15PM I hope this can make a difference. The horde own WG in Nordrassil, and I think Alliance stop showing up out of frustration.
