Help your roleplay character along with a character questionnaire {WoW}

Feb 25th 2012 3:36PM I've long thought that this method is one of the better ways to flesh out a character for roleplaying. I first got the idea based on the little surveys people would pass around on MySpace (and shortly before on a different social network service I used), and thought how easily some of them could be used for finding out small little details about your character. More things like favorite color, favorite memory, what was the house like where you grew up, etc.
Certainly, the above is far more in-depth, and I am going to have to copy this for later. Thanks!

The Daily Grind: Do you read MMO novels? {Massively}

Dec 3rd 2011 3:21PM I've heard those are some of the better books out there in the Star Wars line, but for some reason I just haven't taken to the novels like I have with the films, games, or even graphic novels. I've decided that I like the aesthetics of the universe enough that reading about it doesn't fly. I've been told the audio books tend to be a full on multimedia experience so maybe I'll check those out.

The Daily Grind: Do you read MMO novels? {Massively}

Dec 3rd 2011 11:10AM I tend to be a sucker for tie-in novels, even though their reputation for not being terribly good isn't entirely unfounded. Having worked in a bookstore for the past six years doesn't help that matter.

I'm actually reading Revan right now, not because I care how it influences TOR (it takes place at least two hundred years beforehand, if it influences TOR too directly, I will feel like it's gotten too unrealistic), but because I'd like some closure to KOTOR 1 and 2, It hasn't been bad (as I'll mention later, Karpyshyn is one of the better authors I've read in this genre), but almost half of the story has not been about Revan or any other KOTOR character but instead about a new Sith character, and unfortunately his story has been better than the Revan one. I am only about halfway through however.

I also read the three Mass Effect novels, these also were written by Drew Karpyshyn, and they were all pretty good standalone novels with minimal influence on the events in the game, but I am hoping to see some of the characters in ME3.

I've read most of the WoW novels, and I definitely fall into the Christie Golden fan camp, not Richard Knaak. I was actually a fan of her's from her D&D days, which was one of the primary reasons I read some of her WoW books, but I have enjoyed almost every one of hers. My sensibilities tend to lie with the Alliance, but she always does a good job of making the Horde seem interesting. Her latest novel, Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, was a bit of a letdown however.

These books definitely won't be replacing Scott Lynch, Jacqueline Carey, or George R.R. Martin for me, but when I really want to immerse myself into a game world, these provide a good option for when I can't be in front of my monitor.

The Daily Grind: What enemies are almost too cute to kill? {Massively}

Sep 25th 2011 3:07PM I just started playing Aion again, and as an Asmodian, every single non-hostile creature is made of this. I don't know if it's because they are trying to portray the Asmodian's as 'bad', or if it is just a Korean thing, but there would not have been anyway for me to grind levels in the first area because every single creature is adorable. There's the bunny squirrels, the pig rabbits, the slinks, even one of the 'intelligent' species, the Spriggs were cute enough that I felt bad committing genocide

GDC Europe 2011: Richard Garriott says mobile and social titles are 'the future of games' {Massively}

Aug 18th 2011 2:39PM It makes me sad that he can say and think this, with a straight face, when in the picture above he is wearing the Silver Serpent emblem around his neck. What I wouldn't give for a new Ultima, even if it wasn't Ultima proper, I bet he could still make an interesting, compelling role playing game. Hell through in multiplayer too, if that's what everyone wants, but didn't he reach the pinnacle of his career when he was making games with interesting philosophical issues and philosophies? Even if Angry Birds is incredibly popular and/or profitable, I can't imagine it'd fly (heh) if Ethics were introduced into it.

Breakfast Topic: What should WoW's grand finale event be like? {WoW}

Aug 12th 2011 10:12AM I was thinking the same thing. Further, while I agree it might not be economical to pay developers to create new content for a last hurrah, this game/company is not like all of the others. Unless a horrid string of bad luck makes it so Blizzard isn't in the position they are in now, I'd imagine they could spare some money from their other projects for the one that made them such a juggernaut.

And in regards to them not wanting to do anything that would make it hard to go and make a Warcraft 4 or World of Warcraft 2, I don't believe it's uncommon for the events that occur during a game's ending to not be 'canon'. I feel like I read once that while EverQuest 2 takes place several hundred years in the future of the first game, that they were not necessarily the same universe, so that developers don't always need to take into consideration what the other developers are doing in the other game.

World of Warcraft: "Wolfheart" novel description now available {WoW}

Jul 21st 2011 10:24PM Gosh dang it, this totally sounds like something I'd really like too. I hate how the Gilneas storyline seems to end once you get to Darnassus, and I wanna read about tensions between the humans, and MAIEV, she is one of my favorites. Sigh. I managed to make it through the War of the Ancients, maybe I can make it through this one too.

And hey, I'm actually not enjoying the Thrall book, so maybe Ms. Golden will have an off book, and Knaak will respond in kind?

Enter to win a Blazing Hippogryph and other loot {WoW}

Jul 27th 2010 5:14PM Man I've been trying to get my Hunter a hippogryph for some time. I just don't have the patience for the Cenarion Expedition Reputation, and she hasn't started the Argent Tournament yet. So this could solve that in one fell swoop.

The Daily Blues: Happy Birthday, Zarhym! {WoW}

May 22nd 2010 4:51PM Agreed! Not that the plush isn't cute too.

Mar 23rd 2010 3:12PM It seems to me that the Trade channel could theoretically be made more palatable if the General channel could be made to broadcast through each city like Trade does. As it is now it and LFG are the only channels that allow for such broad conversation, I believe, so I can see why Trade might be abused.

That being said, I'm not convinced that if this change was made that anyone would actually leave Trade alone.
