I'd be cool with it if they didn't allow players to sell cash-bought items for in-game gold. That's the same as buying gold, it's as bad as GW2 and other such games.
Weird that they wrote all this stuff about economic theory and then proceeded to throw it all out of the window by allowing real money and in-game money to mix. :D

Hells yeah! I'm glad, though, that the game is still chugging along - I was worried after the lay-offs. My most highly expected MMO for sure. :)

It's worth checking out - it's a very interesting game (not a lot of turn-based MMOs out there, are there?) and it's very good up to about level 90-100. After that it becomes heavily cash-shop based, especially if you're into PVP (very much a P2W game in the higher levels).

I agree with you, pretty much, except for "buying points to trade for in game money to in turn get anything you want" - isn't that buying power, though? If you can basically buy gold for real money and buy pretty much anything in-game for that gold?

Yeah, those are pretty bad. What would make me cancel a pre-order:
Being able to buy in-game gold for real money.
Magic item finding boosters, so paying people get more loot.
Real money based gambling (buy a box for real money -> receive random item).

I agree that they'll be facing some tough competition - on the other hand, releasing a polished game later is, in my opinion, better than releasing an unfinished game earlier. And I do believe Funcom knows a thing or two about releasing unfinished games. :P

Oh man, this is going to SUCK. Just think of the last few Bethesda titles - Console UIs, technical issues and bugs galore... it hasn't bitten them in the butt with their single-player games because the community is willing to do their job for them and fix the games with mods - but their approach won't cut it with an MMO.
Feb 29th 2012 3:30PM They just announced a P2W cash shop:

Nothing against League of Legends, but if Massively is now no longer a MMORPG news site but also covers MOBAs, I'd be glad to see some HoN and DotA2 news as well.
