Apr 4th 2012 12:38AM After thinking about it further, I think the reason I say people are hypersensitive about it is because I find both phrases equally insulting, yet no attention is given to the phrase to the males. The objectifying is there, the sexual overtones are there, but it's a guy so it's seen as okay. It's a guy, so he probably wants the attention.
I never said being hypersensitive was a bad thing. It's what happens to people who have experienced this in real life. You become acutely aware of even the smallest instances of such behavior.
This isn't the first time I, or I'm sure you and others, have seen these phrases. They're typically meant as compliments, and I'm fairly certain that is what the Blizzard employee who wrote them is going for. I think that's how they should be taken.
Apr 3rd 2012 6:43PM You don't have to be female to notice sexism in action. To say that you do is pretty stupid and insulting. Oh, and sexist.
Apr 3rd 2012 6:24PM Ji Firepaw, an NPC you meet on the Wandering Isle who goes on to become leader of the pandaren Horde faction, greets female characters in a very creepy way, saying "Hello, friend! You're some kind of gorgeous, aren't you? I bet you can't keep the men off of you! Join me! You and I are going to be good friends!" To men, he instead says "Hello, friend! You've got a strong look to you! I bet you're all the rage with the ladies! Join me! You and I are going to be good friends!"
Am I the only one that sees no difference in what is being said here? People are hypersensitive these days.
Apr 3rd 2012 6:14PM My main, and several of my other toons are female. I just chose female because it goes with their names. I haven't noticed this to be an issue at all, though I don't deny that it's out there. I just have no experience with it.
I also asked my Guild's GM, who is actually female and plays female toons, and she also has never been on the receiving end of such comments or behavior.
Sucks for those that it happens to I suppose, but her and I have been playing quite a while so I don't think it's so much of an issue on our server.
Apr 3rd 2012 11:10AM I can't think of a single non-rated BG I've ever been in where I didn't see more than one person belittling anyone they had in their sights. I've been in BGs where we lose 1550 to 1600, fighting tooth and nail for the win. Twenty seconds before the final bell, you can guarantee at least a few asshats will chime in with their clever witticisms about how awful everyone but they were.
I wish it were a minority issue, but it isn't.
Apr 3rd 2012 10:49AM Wow Dan, you sound like one of the main reasons I hate PvP. At least my plastic shovels won't call me names just to make themselves feel better.
Apr 3rd 2012 10:38AM I don't understand how one can say a book was written to be a movie. That would be a screenplay, not a book.
Does it make for a good movie? Sure. But that can be said for many books that never became movies.
I haven't seen the movie, but I read the books. From what I've gathered so far, people that haven't read the books are going to enjoy the movie way more than those that have. I'll still go see it.
Mar 30th 2012 10:33AM You sure sparked a whole lot of QQ in this article. It's not a big deal
