Ready Check: How legendaries destroy PVE {WoW}

Oct 23rd 2011 9:20PM This article wol be much more believable if it didn't stretch the truth on its numbers. Dragonwrath's proc is certainly capable of giving a 20% dps increase. However, player skill can account for waaay more than this. So you have a 20% dps increase on 1 of your 5 dps, which is about a 4% difference in raid DPS in a 10-man. This is significant, but way less than the difference between two successive tiers of gear. On 25-man, 1 staff is under 2% difference. Will you struggle with DPS checks slightly more by losing a staff? Yes. Will it keep you from succeeding perpetually? No.

Spiritual Guidance: Minor glyphs for discipline and holy priests, plus some pre-BlizzCon silliness {WoW}

Oct 18th 2011 2:08PM Let's say you cast fade once per fight on average. That's 927 mana saved with Glyph of Fading per fight. Let's say you cast 1.5 fiends per fight (it'll depend on the fight). Each fiend which dies early will net you 6k mana, so if you lose more than 1 fiend in 10, grab the shadowfiend glyph, otherwise grab the fade glyph. Adjust those depending on how frequently you cast fiend, your fiends die early, or you cast fade.

Patch 4.3 PTR: Inactive guild leader replacement {WoW}

Oct 1st 2011 7:41PM If you're that worried about it, have someone you trust be the next highest rank. They'll be able to take it, and once you're back into the game, you'll be able to ask them for the leadership back. If your relationship with everyone else in your guild is so toxic as to make this not realistic, then I'd have to question what it is you're losing by leaving it.

Gold Capped: Buy low, sell long {WoW}

Jul 31st 2011 2:33PM Lohr, The reason thinking of %yield in WoW isn't as useful as in the real world is because, as Arc said, it's often hard to actually invest all of your gold in short-term deals. As a result, most AH players who've built up significant wealth will have a significant reserve of gold. This means that their limiting factor is no longer gold, but TIME and the available markets. This means that a low-maintenance high absolute profit investment is the right thing to do for some people.

The Queue: The name game {WoW}

Dec 30th 2010 3:56PM I'm pretty sure the guild rep cap is per week, not per day.

Patch 4.0.3a: DPS meta gem requirements being reverted {WoW}

Nov 24th 2010 1:15PM I'm actually somewhat disappointed on their backing down on this change. It created an interesting decision: do you gem for throughput directly, or for the meta? If you are gemming for the meta, you'd gem with pure red, greens, and potentially a yellow if you could afford it. It would enable you to get the vast majority of your socket bonuses, in addition to the best DPS meta. Or you could decide to get a worse meta, fewer socket bonuses, but more pure red gems. It would convert gemming from a local optimization problem (if bonus > X grab mixed gem(s), otherwise grab the pure red), into a global optimization problem, where many more factors come into play.

BlizzCon 2010: Quests and lore panel highlights {WoW}

Oct 27th 2010 1:32PM I think it's been pretty clearly state in-game that Nozdormu IS the leader of the infinite dragonflight. The quest to defend the hourglass of eternity clearly reveals Nozdormu as that leader, and Chromie merely stammers something in shock about it when you return to her with the news, and tries to get the player to not concern themselves with it, but is clearly concerned with this news.

Spiritual Guidance: Priest PSA {WoW}

Aug 30th 2010 5:59PM I'd have to disagree. Working with another disc allows us enough flexibility to maintain bubbles most of the time while still being able to provide spike support with penance/flash.

Ready Check: Cataclysm Class Changes and their effects on raiding {WoW}

Apr 9th 2010 12:56PM ??

Wrath came out on 11/13/08, a Thursday. All of the servers were already ready to go. The only thing that needed to happen was for them to flip the bit to allow XP at 70 for upgraded characters, and to start the boats moving (aka things which they could do without a restart). A restart on a release date would be a horrible idea. You want people to go to the store, buy the game, rush home, and be awed by the game, not sit there refreshing their realm list.

Gold Capped: Cross-faction arbitrage {WoW}

Apr 7th 2010 10:32AM Regarding snipers: Why not set a 12 hour time and record the tme you opened up the auction, and set a sane buyout price but low bid price. Since you know the time it was posted, you can do a pretty good job of making sure to get the last bid. If it gets too high, just cancel the auction and try again.
