Mar 12th 2010 2:56AM 5 healers is another viable option. We've done this with 1 of each spec, and then also with hpally, tree, 2 hpriests, and a disc priest. Once your dps learns to spread out properly for air phase, and how to run to the center/to the walls, it's just a matter of not messing up the bites, and that's more of a DPS job than a healer job. Just stick to your role and you'll be fine (i.e. if you're a resto druid with a shammy in the raid and JoL is up on the raid, don't snipe heals on the melee, or if you're a disc priest, make sure to react to pact/shadows/bloodbolts as appropriate, or if you're a holy pally, don't jump off the tanks until air phase.)
Mar 1st 2010 2:30PM I hope they use this armor-class adjustment to make more interesting encounters. Imagine a situation where there are untauntable adds that fixate on random raid members, doing healable damage. With there being a smaller disparity between cloth/leather/mail and plate, this allows for them to hit for a noticeable amount of damage, while still allowing for prioritization to have an impact (burn the ones on clothies first, while the ones on plate can be saved for last).
The health-pool adjustment is also highly welcome. It'll let them get rid of %-of-health effects as a crutch for balancing. (Think XT: they penalized the raid for having more stam by making Tympanic Tantrum hit harder. If health pools are closer at a given gear level, they don't have to worry about one effect one-shotting a lock while taking just over half the health off a DPS DK)

That's where tools like Warden can come into play. How effective they are I am not entirely sure, but in theory it can help.
Feb 28th 2010 3:01PM SSL done right can prevent a man-in-the-middle. As part of the handshake, the server sends the client a certificate signed by some private key. If WoW were to come embedded with the corresponding public key, then the WoW client could ensure that it was talking to Blizzard. Then the question becomes how can Blizzard ensure it's talking to a WoW client, and this is something that Blizzard has more experience with.
(This anti-MITM property is why HTTPS servers need to have certificates: to prove to a client that there is no man in the middle)
Feb 28th 2010 1:44PM I wonder if Blizzard could try using SSL for the login protocol, with the expected public keys embedded within the wow executable, along with some remote executable detection techniques (i.e. ask for contents of specific memory locations in a random fashion).
This would make the attack much more difficult. The hackers would have to (a) modify wow.exe to have their own public key inside it instead of blizzard's, and (b) Be able to correctly answer all of the challenge-response queries about the currently running executable. While both of these are possible, they are much more difficult than adding a proxy which forces your wow connection to just go through an intermediate hop.
Feb 27th 2010 5:52PM You get more than 50g because you put it up for 48 hours and thus paid a gigantic listing fee (bolts of frostweave vendor for a lot). That's not you making more money, that's you getting a refund of the listing fee.
Feb 20th 2010 11:56AM Not from what I have seen. However by 4 stacks, the raid is taking significant raid damage in addition to the tank damage.
Feb 17th 2010 7:10PM I think you're forgetting the mechanic behind Sartharion 3d zergs: You have to kill him before Shadron's Disciple spawns (and pops up the immunity shield on Sartharion). That's what we see happened there. They were just close, but he had 223 health when the disciple spawned. At this point, the group would have to go in, kill the add in the portal, and then finish off sarth, which is a difficult task in a group with presumably one healer.
Feb 15th 2010 12:47PM A couple notes:
1. The android SDK definitely works on Win7 x64 (I've played around with it a bit, including loading something up onto an emulator)
2. You're losing the security of an authenticator by running it in an emulator on the same machine you type your password into. The whole point of an authenticator is that if your machine gets pwned then you are still safe since the one time password sits physically outside the machine until the point you log in.
Feb 12th 2010 3:09AM 2 Holy Priests makes this a lot easier with Glyph of Guardian Spirit. It will enable you to use it on rotation for every single time the portal team gets sent out of the emerald dream
