Why is Blizzard still OK with gender inequality in World of Warcraft? {WoW}

Apr 3rd 2012 4:13PM First, I think it is kind of self-indulgent to say that the rationale of choosing a female character for the aesthetics is weird, stating "(How this is ever an argument that makes sense to people, I don't know.)" when YOUR reason for doing so is apparently some kind of sexism voyeur so you too can be treated badly?

Second, while juvenile behavior is juvenile, by definition the reason that Blizzard doesn't treat men and women as indistinguishable just might be that to do so would mean there was actually no point in having gender in the game at all?

Your examples of "sexism" by the way fall pretty squarely under #FirstWorldProblems

Nov 18th 2011 10:49AM Bring back the pain! Create a new gate/unlock system for Caverns of Time which requires you to dig up artifacts from the time period you wish to travel to :-p

Drama Mamas: How to share choosing what to do in a duo {WoW}

Nov 7th 2011 9:38AM Two things are missing from this story.

1) Does this duo know each other at all in real life?

2) The author sounds like a woman, and her duo partner sounds like a man. Is there some kind of unresolved sexual tension at work?

The Queue: Attunement was awesome {WoW}

Aug 23rd 2011 11:09AM I think there is a middle ground between ridiculous attunement and just making it a gimmee.

There should be attunement and it should be interesting rather than onerous.

As far as ALts and such goes, what they should do is reduce the Attunement requirements. For example, maybe 75% through the attunement chain you get a BoA item which is required to go forward. By passing it to an Alt you can essentially skip a big chunk of the process but still need to at least do minimal required stuff.

The Queue: CSI Theramore {WoW}

Jan 7th 2011 11:29AM I thought that was a problem specific to the Hippogryff... Because the Hippogryff does NOT actually have a running animation, just a flying animation. The Flying Carpet was designed to do both from scratch. When the Hippogryff was added in BC they just re-used the Mob model and did not modify it to be a fully featured mount (ie ground animation).

Jan 7th 2011 11:25AM It appears to be very sketchy and vary from GM to GM. The response I received from a request was that the character had to be low level AND the account was inactive (ie unsubscribed). Whether there is a length of time it has to be unsubscribed, I have no idea.

Anyway, my request was denied, BUT when I transferred my character to that server, I wasn't forced to change my name, I got the name... So either the GM did the name change anyway, the system has some means of automatically doing it, or I got real lucky and transferred just after the character in question was deleted but before he was recreated.

The Queue: The name game {WoW}

Dec 30th 2010 11:19AM It isn't inactive characters, they will only do this if the ACCOUNT is inactive. I just tried to get a name and that is what the GM said for why he could not accomodate me.

If a character is

The Daily Blues {WoW}

Dec 21st 2010 4:57PM You are in the minority.

Many people spend far more time reading/talking/posting about WoW than they do playing it. For example, reading and replying to posts on this blog :-p

The game has to be complex enough to support all the meta-analysis.

WoW Rookie: Dungeoneering 101 {WoW}

Dec 16th 2010 5:00PM Everyone has their own kill order. Personally I like to use Skull then follow ROYGBIV since it is a fairly easy mnemonic that is almost universally known... So not by shape, by color. Red (X), Orange (Circle), Yellow (Star), Green (Thong), Blue (Square), etc.
