Jan 7th 2012 9:36AM I'm female, and my first toon and main is male, and I chose to roll him male for a few reasons, ranging from screwing with people (I love getting on voice chat when they try to figure out who my toon is after I speak up- I don't hide it but the confusion in their voices is evident) to just liking playing a male toon- especially since I hated all the vanilla Alliance female models.
My second toon was female and there was a world of difference with random players wanting to group and be nice and add me to their friends list and... yyyeah. As time went on I leaned towards male characters to avoid that sort of thing, since I find it awkward and silly and bothersome more than anything, but it totally depended on the character, especially after the advent of draenei and even more so after worgen, as I like both of the female models.
I considered making my main a worgen female for about thirty seconds, but when I scream at my fellow druids "Shadowmeld!" and they reply "Worgen!", it makes me cry a little. Also, changing him at this juncture would feel wrong.
Of my six 85s, the sexes are split 50/50... which actually surprised me when I went to check, although the worgen warrior chick was obviously new as of Cata. The numbers are split equally evenly down the rest of my alts.
All that being said, I much more rarely run into male toons being played by a female than the reverse.
