The Queue: I need to read more {WoW}

Mar 28th 2012 11:26AM If you like young adult fantasy literature of a slightly girly persuasion and like supporting self-published authors, a friend has a blow devoted to separating the good from the bad in this genre:

I've read most of her 4.5 or 5.0 star books, and if you like the genre, they're good reads and usually $1-$3 each.

In defense of intellect plate {WoW}

Feb 5th 2012 5:26PM I personally like the idea of having priests wear spell plate (a la D&D clerics, who can wear heavy armor). Of course, then for MoP you'd have 4 classes in plate, 3 in leather, 2 in mail, and 2 in cloth, which creates a different kind of imbalance.

I agree that there's probably no optimal solution, though the let-them-use-mail system objection of "but then paladins wouldn't look enough like paladins!" could be managed with tier sets and transmogrification, in my opinion.

Breakfast Topic: What are your WoW pet peeves? {WoW}

Jan 28th 2012 10:48AM People who need to learn the rule, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." This is especially true in a random group. It really sucks the fun for me when people start arguing about who is or isn't doing things right or wrong, does or doesn't suck, is or isn't dumb, etc.

I guess that's not WoW-specific, huh. I wonder if these people are so irritatingly negative in person, too.

Profanity filters, homophobic slurs, and Blizzard's shaky relationship with the LGBT community {WoW}

Jan 25th 2012 2:56PM My comment was a response to another comment (since deleted) that talked about "weak minorities" and "victim culture" or similar.

The comment on stiletto heels is a reference to the Stonewall riots, which are identified (with debatable accuracy) as the beginning or a turning point in the modern gay rights movement. Drag queens were among those who rioted against police who had, for years, harassed and assaulted members of the GLBT community, and raided the eponymous bar (the Stonewall Inn) the night the riots began.

Profanity filters, homophobic slurs, and Blizzard's shaky relationship with the LGBT community {WoW}

Jan 25th 2012 9:31AM If you think gay and trans people are weak, there's a drag queen's stiletto heel with your name on it.

Jan 25th 2012 9:25AM Perhaps now is a good time for a player campaign to get fag and faggot added to the profanity filter? Emails? Or perhaps every time someone is reported to a GM for saying an anti-gay slur, the report should include "you know, these words aren't even filtered by the adult language/profanity filter."

Breakfast Topic: Have you ever won the Fishing Tournament? {WoW}

Jan 21st 2012 12:23PM Won the STV contest my first try, but 2 or 3 attempts at the Kalu'ak one and I never saw a shark. Now that I no longer spend time in Northrend I'm not motivated enough to go back and try.

The etiquette of rolling on gear in groups {WoW}

Jan 12th 2012 5:35PM Similar problems include the ability of a tanking warrior to roll Need (with a bonus) for a 2H weapon because of the fact that tanking DKs need to be able to roll on it.

I think they may be working on some of this, though. It would be great if they could manage rules that really reflect who actually NEEDS things based on class, spec, and role.

Drama Mamas: Loot lessons {WoW}

Dec 27th 2011 10:06AM This. Our guild runs with "MS over OS, one piece of loot per night until everyone has won something" rules. I thought they were pretty standard in many guilds, I'm shocked this letter-writer has never encountered them before.
