Drama Mamas: When NSFW guild chat aggros a parent {WoW}

Nov 19th 2010 10:03AM I'd like to speak out as a parent of a 9-year old WoW player. My son has Asperger's Syndrome, and has the knack for learning video games, such as WoW very easily and quickly. I give him a limited time to play online, but only during the day or early afternoon. I keep my own language filters on all the time, to avoid the chance for my son to see something that he shouldn't in guild, trade, or general chat. This game is not designed for children, which I well know, and only allow my son to play it because it helps him develop social skills that he has difficulty adjusting to in the real world (believe it or not, it does work). Foul language may be filtered out, but innuendos are not. However, children under the age of 16 are generally not experienced enough to "get" such discussions, so I don't worry. I do hover when he's playing, to make sure nothing said to or around him is offensive. That's MY job as a parent. I can't take the responsibility for the other 50 thousand people playing around him. They have the right to speak freely (as is our God given right in this country). If a discussion gets heated, I remove HIM from the situation, not the reverse.
Enraged Mom was obviously embarrassed by her lack of control over what her child saw, and looked to pass the blame onto the people whose rights are to speak as they see fit. It's her job to watch her child, not the rest of the population. We are to protect our children as we see fit, and by doing so REMOVE them from the situation, not the situation from our children. It would be like removing all the water from a river to catch the fish, rather than pulling the fish from the water.

Cataclysm tanking changes expanded {WoW}

Oct 29th 2010 2:21PM The biggest tanking change that people have failed to mention is for the dps classes. Once again, CC is going to be in effect, and dps classes will have to learn to let the tank get aggro before charging in with instant-aoe's. Finally, some resemblance of vanilla-style tanking, which I loved.
