Officers' Quarters: Trouble with a demoted raid leader {WoW}

Nov 21st 2011 11:43PM Yes. There ABSOLUTELY needs to be DIRECT feedback to someone when they're doing something wrong. I'm actually shocked that Andrews actually recommended what in my experience is one of the most popular--and least effective--techniques shared by bad managers: namely, giving instructions to an entire group that are actually intended for one single person.

The people who are already doing the right thing will potentially be resentful that you're telling them to fix a problem they don't have, and the person who isn't doing the right thing won't ever figure out that your feedback is intended for them.

If the problem is with the group, address the group. If the problem is with a person, address *that person*. If you can't handle giving individual, targeted feedback, then you don't deserve a leadership position. Period.

Phat Loot Phriday: Stitches' Stitchings {WoW}

Nov 18th 2011 7:01PM Sometimes I feel as though Duskwood and STV were initially designed the way they were just so those of us who started playing in vanilla and TBC could tell crotchety "back in my day" stories to the people who picked up the game in Wrath and Cata.

Patch 4.3: New UI improvements {WoW}

Nov 15th 2011 8:29PM I've been saying for years that the minimaps should have more 3D functionality. When you're in caves, passages should shade lighter/darker as they get higher/lower relative to your current elevation, and markers on the map should follow the same scheme. The upcoming change is good, but it still requires a mouseover to see relative elevation.

Nov 15th 2011 8:19PM This was my thought. Clearly, NBC is just trying to be the new Fox (Firefly, Arrested Development, Drive, Dollhouse, Futurama, Family Guy...)

Drama Mamas: When "just friends" intrudes on love {WoW}

Nov 15th 2011 8:14PM I'd say that "single men in their 40s and 50s" *in general* are a totally different group from "single men in their 40s and 50s" *who are socially active online*.

I'm a 28-year-old woman, and I have a number of online friends, male AND female, who are in their 40s and 50s--some married, some single. Many people play MMOs, post on forums, etc. as a way to meet new people and socialize; it's shouldn't be suprising that some (or even many) of those relationships will fall outside the age and gender boundaries that you'd typically expect had the people met in real life.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Snapshots of tanking tomorrow {WoW}

Nov 15th 2011 7:47PM Wow, I'm a complete moron. I read "Vengeance," thought "Vigilance," and then wrote "Vengeance." HERP A DERP.

Given how badly tanks lag behind DPS in damage, especially by the end of an expansion, I don't see Vengeance going away. It's an important stat to keep tanks from lagging too far behind DPS.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Snapshots of tanking tomorrow {WoW}

Nov 15th 2011 7:45PM Vengeance hasn't been about threat for a long time now. In its current state, it's great for multi-tank fights where you need to swap bosses or adds around, because (a) it procs your taunt and (b) it keeps your Vengeance stacking when you're not getting hit. It would also be useful on any fight where you expect to have to peel adds off DPS or healers. Really, all the threat buff did was make Vig useless in 99% of five-mans; the raid utility hasn't changed since it stopped transferring threat.

On the subject of stats, though, I'm confused why Rossi would mention *Dodge* and Mastery, with Parry as an aside, in a *Warrior* column. Every Protection Warrior is probably 2/2 Hold the Line, which specifically synergizes with *Parry*, making it definitely preferable to Dodge for us (versus Paladins or DKs, who AFAIK treat Dodge and Parry equally).

Nov 15th 2011 7:39PM This is one of the many reasons I use IceHUD. I've been using it for probably over four years, and it was broken exactly once, for at most a week before they got a running version up again. It's great for a Mage (or any caster) because it shows HP and your resource (mana for mages) as both a number and a percent, and the castbar also gives a graphic representation of when you can start casting your next spell based on lag (top portion of the castbar turns red).

Gold Capped: How to get around realm transfer gold limits {WoW}

Nov 11th 2011 7:05PM That's actually backwards. The idea is to buy something on Origin Realm that you can sell for even more money on Destination Realm--not to buy vendor trash on Origin Realm that you'll sell on Destination Realm for less gold than you paid.

Nov 10th 2011 11:49PM Confirming that the item mails don't spawn until you log in for the first time on a particular toon that's eligible for the item. That's what starts the normal mail month-long timer.
