Hands-on with Star Trek Online's space combat {Massively}

Dec 8th 2009 2:52PM Assuming you're not in the beta and have never played the game, it's difficult to make comments about the behavior of systems you've not used. If you are in the beta, this is not the forum in which to air such grievances and might even be a violation of your NDA.

However, one thing to keep in mind is game development is that the "finer" effects are never out in the early rounds of beta testing.That comes later. WoW was the same way. Go back and look at all the other UI and graphics they had prior to WoW's release. Some of it was just downright scary and pathetic.

I'm in the closed beta and so I can't really say much, but what I can say is that each patch has generally improved the game play. The UI continues to evolve, usually for the better. The space combat is truly my favorite part. I've found it to be 90% to 95% intuitive and the remaining "oddities" did not take much time to understand, figure out and generally master.

Patch 3.3: Teleporting in and out of instances {WoW}

Nov 6th 2009 8:22AM What I want to know is, what if you're flying high above some zone when you accept your summons? Will you be returned mid-flight but without your mount? Not a problem for my druid, but for my other characters, that would be instant death. The simple answer would be to land before accepting the summons, but, we all know that people will not think to do that. Hopefully, at the very least, they'll give us a parachute!

Breakfast Topic: The best city for shopping {WoW}

Oct 16th 2009 8:54AM Oh, by the way, I don't know how many people know this but when you come out of the mage town in Stormwind, instead of jumping off the ramp to the ground or mounting and jumping off, if you want to avoid that fall damage here's now and it just takes a little practice to do. When you come out of the building and onto the ramp, there's a tree there right near the top of the ramp, you can actually land in the tree when you jump off the ramp and then just take one step and land on the ground. No falling damage. Just mount and run. And, druids, of course, can shift into cat form and thanks to their feline grace land without damage at all.

Oct 16th 2009 8:48AM On the Alliance, I keep my bank toons parked in Stormwind. If that is the best place for a level 1 bank toon. However, on other toons since I'm in Dalaran most of the time I will either go to Stormwind or Ironforge but most of the time, I go to Stormwind. The portal landing leaves you dismounted but the run out to the mountable area is very short (compared to other places like TB where it's much longer).

On the Horde, I like TB and UC equally for the level 1 bank toons. So, either one works for me. They were both very convenient for AH or bank or mailbox. I mean, really was running up or down 1 ramp from the bank all that difficult before they added the new UC mailboxes? Not really. The TB setup has always been pretty convenient for access to the bank, AH, forges and repair and has always been a popular spot for me as well. If I have to port back from Dalaran, though, I usually go with UC for the reason people have already mentioned, landing in the cave unable to mount is very annoying.
