Nov 11th 2008 7:37PM Look for the kind of cash were talking about there is a simple method of avoiding practically ALL downtime.
simply have two sets of servers available for play. when they want to patch, patch set "b" first. then call that the "beta realm". allow beta players on it to confirm bugs are ironed out. when its confirmed. simply transfer regular traffic to the "b" servers. next patch set "a" gets the beta designation. Yes server farms are expensive, but yes we a pay a lot for this game. asking a firm who's main income is derived from internet access to have a duplicate server farm to avoid this crap is not asking too much. My point is this: There are ABSOLUTELY ways to avoid pretty much ALL down time. they just don't wanna spend the money on it.
