Dec 30th 2008 11:08AM What an amazing video! Smart, sassy, tight, and IMHO the j-pop really DOES help make it (even though it's not my standalone music of choice, it's a great fit for this piece). There's a lot of sublety and sophistication going on here.
I guess I now wish Blind really was an AoE. Ah, for a flashbang. Still, watching epic action is the stuff dreams are made of. Can't wait to see more from percula!
Dec 5th 2008 11:17AM I figure it's something on the order of "oh, this stat's still fluid, we'll keep it in memcache and not write it to disk yet." Server reset comes along, something unclean happens, and oops, the stat was only current in mem copy - disk write was old. Maybe really old, in the case of Mr "lost 70 points of fishing".
Which means, you know, something to try is stop using a stat for 10 minutes after you do something you care about with it. 10 minutes of inactivity should trip any LRU cache writedown.
NB: I am not a Blizzie, I just play a gob engr on one of their servers. ;-) (and I'm not even 450 yet, oh noes!)
Nov 14th 2008 2:14PM I loved the immersion -- and the opportunity to actively take part IN that immersion, for RP-niks; I had the good fortune to be with the group waiting somewhat excitedly, somewhat dubiously for a potential attack on Stormwind Harbor -- and just as many were giving up, *it hit*. But I wanted more lore, more crescendo, more Arthus appearing in the harbor (or a projection of him) 100' tall thrashing Frostmourne and declaring us all doomed, then having to run like heck from the tsunami he generated with a single mighty sweep of the great blade... etcetera, etcetera, et al. I just wanted more, and though I didn't realize it until I read the article, I *did* want there to be some massive blow that would make us rise up to demand justice. Maybe he'd erect a statue of himself in Orgimmar. Maybe he'd split Stormwind the way Silvermoon City has been seared by the Scar. Maybe he'd just blow Stormwind Keep off its foundation into rubble. I don't know, but that would have been the lore-blow necessary to drive every last hero and antihero onto the boats over to Northrend.
I loved it. I wanted more. I hope Blizzard realizes this is one of their huge competitive advantages and keeps doing these kinds of things to stay on top in the new competitive MMORPG landscape -- because that's what will keep my friends and me here.
Nov 14th 2008 10:45AM Okay, this one is ultracool.
Can I click need? Please? Please?
*pause* ... Oh, okay... *sigh*
Well, while I'm waiting on pins and needles, I'll keep working on my [flyable] workaround.
Nov 14th 2008 10:43AM looking for the Clothos CPU and the Atropos LCD to go with it.
Nov 13th 2008 1:37PM hmm, which button to click....
Nov 13th 2008 9:56AM ...although, as of 6:55 AM PST (8:55 AM CST, where I am), it's not open for creation AFAICT.
Nov 13th 2008 9:49AM Just to be able to participate in a Gates opening event would be worth it.
Tempting to go and roll one up. I've only been on an RP server before, so to be able to choose a name that's usually taken and also reportable is intriguing as well....
Nov 13th 2008 9:45AM Because staying up all night to watch the sociology and anthropology of this net.event unfold was just too compelling, even if BOTH my copies of of WLK are lost out there (GameStop hasn't shipped the primary for unknown reasons, and FedEx is lazing my GoGamer backup across the country on a truck with no name -- though it feels good to be out from the rain).
I mean, rilly. I'm still up because I had to go to work. Sick days have to be saved for when I actually HAVE the expansion, after all. :-)
Nov 13th 2008 9:42AM I can has CE?
