Bug rewards free and discounted PvP gear [UPDATED] {WoW}
Nov 12th 2008 11:31AM Here's the thing...
Blizzard forums were down all night. There was no info on any this from an official source. So I logged in and see nothing but chat flooded with info on how there is free gear on the pvp vendors. Not a single GM post in game or on forums about the subject. I figured it was probably a bug...it's too weird to be intentional. Just locks and priests? Makes no sense.
BUT...in a video game, which believe it or not, WoW still is, when a vendor mysteriously is offering to giving you gear much better than your own at a great price (free!)...that's not stealing. It's not even exploiting. Sorry. You MIGHT have an argument if when I logged in, there was a message from Blizz saying "Don't buy that free gear." But there wasn't.
Aren't there supposed to be GMs on 24 hours a day? ESPECIALLY after a big server outage? You're telling me Blizz, with all their staff, after a major server outage, just all went out for a drink, and not a single GM happened to notice that trade was flooded with talk of free epics? They could easily have sent out some server-wide tells ( which they do all the time on a server restart or other urgent messag, the technology is already there ) telling players it was bug?
Sorry. They may take it all back...probably will. Probably will fuck up and take some stuff that was legitimately purchased, too. I don't much care. I mean, easy come, easy go. But enough with the high and mighty talk and calling people thieves. Blizz needs to take some fucking responsibility. Yeah, it's the biggest mmorpg ever, and that probably means they're encountering issues noone ever had to face before. It's complicated and difficult to mange it all.
Which MEANs, not that they should get a pass and have a bunch of apologists make excuses, but rather that as the most successful mmorpg out there, they should damn well expect a spotlight on them, ESPECIALLY right before a big launch, and they should be making damn sure they don't publish these sorts of bugs.
Sorry, long post, but the whole Blizz apologist thing annoys the hell out of me. Maybe next they'll break WoW in to however many different games, one for each race, like they did with starcraft. I really wish someone else would step up and make a better game without all the stupid-ass decisions Blizz makes, but I freely admit, noone has anything better out there yet.
Anyway, here's my real question...Can anyone find the forum posts where Blizz said honor points would still be able to buy S2 gear until you hit level 71? I swear I saw that, like many other people. I'd gladly give back my free lock gear in exchange for just being able to spend my hard-earned honor points like they said I could...
