Jan 3rd 2012 9:30PM @(Unverified) The problem with EQ2's wiki is that it's on Wikia, which is very vulnerable to having ads served with malicious scripts, or the scripts themselves inserted to the pages. Most of the information is mirrored on Zam, thankfully, and Zam is almost religious in how it keeps their network trojan free.

As for an API that lets sites fetch data directly from in-game, WoW has actually taken that step. It's a nice feature that I hope will be copied in the future to other games.

While I applaud Bioware's ability to make an MMO as story rich and immersive as a single player RPG, only time will tell on just how long they can keep that going with regular updates. 'Cause unlike single player games, they can't just toss out a few bug patches and then move onto a new project.

Dec 21st 2011 5:04PM @Ehra SOE was fully in charge of Vanguard at release. They're the primary reason WHY it was released at that time. They basically gave Sigil an ultimatum: Release now, or don't release at all, since Sigil had no more funds of its own. And then when it had a very poor release, SOE gutted Sigil and basically put a skeleton staff in charge of maintaining Vanguard.

If Sigil could have been given funds for another year, and a longer beta testing period, Vanguard would have come out as a much stronger game. But SOE wanted a quick return on their investment.

Dec 11th 2011 11:31PM I'd just like to point out that when a game is described as having SNES style graphics, and actually has at least that many colors to support that claim, it falls under "16 bit game". Maybe a bit pedantic, but this is far superior than what an NES had to offer

Dec 8th 2011 11:55PM I think this came from the flood of forum posts by people asking what the heck was going on. SOE sent out an email to everyone saying that EQ2 was F2P, but didn't mention -anywhere- in that email that you'd have to buy race/class unlocks if you didn't sub.

While there are many people who followed EQ2's brand of F2P since its inception as Extended, there were many more who knew nothing about it and had quit Live for various reasons. So getting that email really was a slap to the face, and could have ended up being quite the PR nightmare.

In the end, I think they made a very fair compromise. People get to play their old characters now forever free, with the understanding that anything new they make falls under those restrictions. That gesture alone will probably get them more money than forcing those people to pay to unlock their beloved characters.

It isn't exactly a full explanation of what went wrong, because I don't think most users would understand it anyway. But he does apologize, and to me it feels quite genuine that he's sorry that they were unable to do this update in a timely process.

Dec 5th 2011 2:30PM @pid Physical copy means exactly nothing with PC games these days, unless that physical copy includes things other than a DVD, or has no copy protection and needs no patches that don't make you re-download 90% of the game.

I'm not sure why people are so set on holding physical discs in their hands nowadays when most of the time that content is completely unusable without some sort of internet access, either for day 0 patches, key registration, or other such annoyances.

Dec 4th 2011 2:30AM @mysecretid The F2P part really isn't any different than the current offering. The main thing that has changed is that the Gold sub has been upgraded to be identical with the current live sub. That, and they removed the platinum subscription plan
