Video Games Live comes to PBS this summer {WoW}

Jun 9th 2010 5:45PM Man, VGL was one of the most incredible symphony experiences I have ever had.

I've heard a lot of symphonies, (my office regularly gets free passes to several as part of a promotional deal) and I usually enjoy them as a bit of fun to have after work, but VGL is not your average symphony stuff. The pieces they play are absolutely /epic/. None of that ye olde, 45-minute long generic orchestra stuff. Each piece is 5-7 minutes long and will absolutely /blow you away/. Both times I went (Hollywood Bowl/2007 and Greek Theatre/2009) I booked early and got killer seats and I'll tell you; It was powerful. Almost all of their arrangements are just /awesome/ and if you are really into video game music like I am, you'll love it.

I also like the whole gamer scene and seeing the crazy fans hanging out before the show, waaaay different than all the other orchestra events I've been to. Like Monsoon said above, seeing the regulars to that venue react to all the "hooligans" at their concert hall was also amusing. xD

Last time I went I picked up the CD (which had all my favorites. :D ), and while it's still pretty awesome on my nice stereo system, the real thing was just unbelievable. I try to make an effort to go every time it is nearby. I really hope the TV version is okay, usually TV sounds like crap and that kind-of defeats the purpose of an orchestra. Would still be cool to entice some people to go to the real thing though.

TL;DR: VGL is really awesome. Go.

An analysis of all the food and drink in WoW {WoW}

May 25th 2010 12:05PM As a statistics junkie and a big fan of food, I found this article and resulting discussion quite entertaining. Thanks for doing the research and writing it up. :)

The Queue: Here comes the sun {WoW}

May 24th 2010 7:00PM Not only that, but the quest that used to make you go out to the Hinterlands to kill and shrink owlkin was replaces with just killing/shrinking bears and wolves instead.

Apr 26th 2010 7:11PM I still don't understand why other Warriors are so upset about AoE tanking. I've been Warrior tanking all through WotLK, I've done almost every bit of content in the whole expansion, (there's a bit left in ICC that I haven't done yet) and I have never had a real, honest-to-goodness threat problem. I'm not even uber geared or anything.

Sure, sometimes that first Shield Slam misses or one of the DPS gets some (un)lucky huge cooldown-induced crits right off the bat, but in almost all situations, I've been holding threat fine. In fact, after these last couple buffs in 3.3.3, I've been tanking the bajeezus out of everything and people want /more/?

Am I missing something?

Drama Mamas: At what price perfection? {WoW}

Feb 12th 2010 7:49PM I've heard a lot of people give me the "I play this spec because it's what I know and have fun playing." line, but I just ask them to humor me and try the cookie-cutter spec for a raid or two. Usually they oblige, and almost every time they come back a week later and tell me "You know, I liked playing my old spec, but I /really enjoy/ instantly vaporizing people. Thanks for the help."

A lot of times people don't realize there's other options out there and don't realize the huge difference a simple spec/gameplay change can make. Just make sure to offer to guide them in a friendly manner and you should notice people being much more receptive to change. When you help point someone in the right direction and they go from the bottom 2 DPS to #2, they are usually grateful, and it just makes everyone happier in the end.

What really sucks is when you try to help one of those people who think they are hot stuff and God's gift to the raid group. Endless frustration.

Armory Data Mining updated for patch 3.3 {WoW}

Jan 25th 2010 8:23PM Resto/Enhance is a fun combination. I'd assume that most Shaman are either Elemental because they spend a lot of time leveling like that (Enhance just isn't cool without Dual Weild or Stormstrike, and you get those at 41 - over halfway to the level cap) or Resto so they can raid and pick the other as off-spec so they can share gear. It is kind-of lame to have to carry around 2 completely separate sets of gear. (I always carry my full Resto/PvE, Resto/Furious-PvP and Enhance/PvE sets with me. Fills 2 22-slot bags. :S )

I think Enhance is a blast though. It's very active and dynamic. Lots of buttons to watch though.
