Mar 17th 2009 12:03PM Well, after looking over the new PvP armor sets, I'm not going to gripe. I kind of like some parts. But the following is my critique of each set.
DEATH KNIGHT- I think, overall, it's worse than the set it evolved from.
They've taken the skull helm idea in the wrong direction, making the mandibles fuse into a chin strap. Would've been cooler to elongate them into tusks like the DK starter gear, and give the skull up top fangs. I like the glowy eyes and shading of the face though.
As for the shoulders, why do we have leather straps covering the skulls? Recoler them into steel, or just remove them. Fangs here would be nice as well.
The rest is uninspiring. There's rivets. Why? They look ugly. And why are the elbows, neck and fingers uncovered?
DRUID- Can't complain. They're always shapeshifted anyway, who cares how their armor looks?
HUNTER- What's with the swami turban there? The rest of the set just looks strange. Hunters are masters of nature, their armor should be basic and flowing, but look functional and practical. Not have all these swirls and sharp edges. And why is the T8 helm a gas mask!?
MAGE- I like this set. Only thing is, why red? The Kirin Tor is a huge thing right now, especially for mages, so why not color the armor in blues and purples? More magey colors would be good.
PALADIN- What on earth? Why is it darker than the rogue's armor? Why do they have jewels on their head and shoulders? Returning to CrystalForge, are we? Paladins are virtuous defenders of the light, and should have clean, light colors with a feeling of tradition and reverence to the patterns and ornamentation, like Catholic ceremonial clothing.
PRIEST- Looks too similar to the Mage in my opinion. Again, why red? I can't really think of anything good or bad about this set. It just seems like they reused the mage set with some minor tweaks.
SHAMAN- Meh. I've never really been one for the shammy sets. I guess the helm looks a little strange. Maybe make it more epicer?
ROGUE- My least favorite. It's white. They're masters of blending into the shadows. It has a giant diamond on the head. Why? It looks overly light and glowy for someone who deals in darkness.
WARLOCK- I like this set. Only thing I'd change is the large gray zipper on the bottom of the helm. It seems to serve to purpose other than to look ugly.
WARRIOR- I'm kind of liking the venus fly trap aesthetic here. Just cover up the triangles of skin where the helm and chest armor don't meet, it looks silly. Maybe cover up the top of the head, for practicality; the head is generally considered an area worth protecting in melee.
Mar 13th 2009 3:33AM I just wish they'd reverse the Howling Blast nerf. As it stands, it just isn't worth 51 points.
Also, nerf pallies. I'm sick of fighting them twice because they always bubble heal. The only really frustrating part is that there is no way to counter that.
Mar 9th 2009 1:23PM The only changes I really dislike are the changes to Howling Blast, tanking cooldowns, and Lichborne.
Howling Blast was somewhat important to keeping AoE threat as a tank. I couldn't spam it, but I had it there to compliment my Blood Boil. Now with the 10-second cooldown, I have a feeling AoE threat will be much more tenuous.
The increased cooldown on our tanking cooldowns is also kind of strange because we were the cooldown tanking class; we don't have shield block or health oceans like the other tanks, we had undead magics to keep us alive. I thought Blizz didn't want to homogenize classes anymore, but putting us all on the same cooldown... Err, cooldown is more than a hint that they want us all the same.
And finally, Lichborne. I don't see the problem with it before, it really helped out in times of need. Maybe it was a little imbalanced for PvP or something.
Maybe trying to balance PvP, PvE DPS, PvE tanking and dual wielding vs two handers in every tree wasn't such a great idea after all...
Jan 5th 2009 4:47PM What's up with the constellation statues in Halls of Lightning? I can understand why the four races represented are the only ones there; at the time the Titans built the place, they were the only four, right?
Tauren either evolved or were created by the Earthmother, trolls seem to have just evolved, and the night elves either evolved from trolls or were created by Elune. But what about humans?
The orcs and draenei hadn't arrived yet, blood elves hadn't been corrupted yet, and the undead, obviously, hadn't been created yet. Thus, it stands to reason that gnomes and dwarves aren't there because the titans hadn't invented them yet.
But humans defy this theory. It is implied that humans are the "weak and ugly" descendants of the vrykul; but if the vrykul hadn't been invented by the titans yet, how could there be humans depicted in the Halls of Lightning?
Dec 30th 2008 3:12PM When WotLK first came, I didn't have a 55 due to various problems (I left WoW idling and unattended with a friend over), and didn't get back up to 55 for a couple weeks. When I did start my DK, the starting zones were comfortable. There were enough people there if someone needed help/advice, but not so many that we were competing for quests.
I jumped straight into Outland on my DK (as a 58, he was my highest toon). It was horrible. Nothing but DKs. I did only two dungeons the entire time (Slave Pens and Underbog), and we had a priest and four DKs. Just awful. From the few non-DKs I got a lot of crap, which is why I mostly just soloed through there in a week or two.
My first day in Northrend was so eye-opening. I've heard horror stories about other realms, but on Elune, the other classes had maintained a healthy population, and I myself was respected! It was amazing!
As for my personal conduct, things haven't changed since I rerolled (yup, DK is my main). I might accidentally steal a quest mob, but I do just what I did pre-DK; apologize and if the quest items aren't BoP, give them two of mine. I guess it all comes down to how you yourself act, not how people generally define your class.
Dec 22nd 2008 2:52PM I have a question: In the patch notes for 3.0.8, it says DKs have access to new faces and skin textures. Don't we already? Or are they adding more? If they are, isn't it a little too convenient that they're released right after the recustomization option?
Dec 19th 2008 11:34PM Beatphreek: "as far as we know he's not being tortured"
Because we all know water boarding isn't really torture.
