Raid Rx: A rock and a hard place {WoW}

Sep 2nd 2010 6:58PM This is really a symptom of a bigger problem - the "I have to heal everything!" attitude.

If you are a raiding shaman, you weren't brought to the raid to fill the "bring the tank back from the red while moving". No one single-heals Sindy, so you have 1 or 2 other healers with you who are much better equipped to do that then you are. Priest can shield or Penace, Druid can swiftmend, pally has Beacon up, whatever. Throw a Riptide at the tank, and then move. Just because you're out of cooldowns doesn't mean all the healers and the tank are all out of cooldowns. And if they are, you're going to wipe soon no matter what you do.

Trust the people you're healing with. Don't try to do it all.

The Daily Quest: Me tanks {WoW}

Jun 1st 2010 11:43AM I'm leveling a Warrior tank through the dungeon finder in the Zangermarsh guild, and it's really been a lot of fun.

The thing to realize is that you set the pace. You don't have to chain-pull entire instances. Tell the DPS to wait until they see the Thunderstomp animation before they start DPSing. Wait for the healer to have mana before the next pull.

And get some tanking addons. I like ThreatPlates, but you can get away with the aggro bars in the standard UI. I use Grid for healing, so I just turned on the advanced aggro settings (instead of just a red border around a player when they have aggro, this shows a yellow border when they're about to pull aggro) and use that as my raid frames.

Also, you don't have to commit to tanking for life. Get a decent shield, and go try one instance. If you can fill the group with guildies, that's easiest. Maybe you'll love it!

Apr 16th 2010 4:15PM Balance druids are only now finding their legs.

Well, you try finding anything in that big pile of feathers and fur!

Muscle March introduction for first-timers {WoW}

Apr 1st 2010 2:39PM Yep! I own it. Great party game, especially after large quantities of alcohol.

Scattered Shots: The right pet for the right situation {WoW}

Mar 18th 2010 11:58AM I thought I was the only hunter in the world with a plainstrider. No one ever mentions them in hunter guides, but I saw about a 10% increase in DPS when I stabled my Carrion Bird.

Mine's the purple one from the druid quest chain island.

Cataclysm Stat & System Changes Revealed {WoW}

Mar 1st 2010 2:53PM Druids have the same problem, really - shammies have a caster DPS spec, a healing spec, and a melee DPS spec. Druids have the same plus tanking. So the issues with enhancement shaman will likely also affect cat druids.

Patch 3.3.3 PTR patch notes updated {WoW}

Feb 24th 2010 5:17PM It's a buff to Starfall (that annoying AoE that pulls everything in the dungeon on top of you), not Starfire (the long-cast-spell in every boomkin rotation)

Pulling aggro in PUGs: who's to blame {WoW}

Jan 14th 2010 7:25PM I'm running 2 tanks in heroics every night, and I will call out DPS who pull off me repeatedly. I was in a group the other night - the healer said "Need mana. Don't pull". The DPS DK "jokingly" said "Pull? Okay!" and pulled the next group. I picked them up, blew my cooldowns, and we survived. Then I told him:

"DPS like you are the reason there is a tank shortage."

He probably didn't learn anything, but it made the healer cheer and me feel better.
