The Care and Feeding of Warriors: But hitting buttons is fun! {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 3:04PM honestly I'm conflicted here. start the flames guys. I liked the old shield block. back when you tanked then there was a far more orderly if you will. Kara, the prince for example, tanking him was one of the more challenging encounters i have ever faced as a prot warrior. it required you to be on you toes as a warrior and balance the global cooldown vs threat and protective skills. yes you had to ensure that shield block was always up every time it could be or you were dead, but that to me was the challenge. you had to be precise, you had to think fast, and you had to have some luck. the tanking rotation while spammy was not chaotic as it today in wrath.

but here we are now. looking forward to seeing how block will change. i would like to see shield block be exactly just that. a block. as in all damage BLOCKED. now i know that this would be not easy to pull off without something to balance it. I liked the combo point idea that was mentioned. how about tiring in sunder armor/devastate to the ability. so fir example

shield block
will block 1 physical attack for 20% per stack of sunder armor applied to players selected target. useing shield block will consume 2 stacks of sunder armor and make the target immune to sunder armor for 15 seconds. 10 sec cool down. Threat is proportional to the damage blocked and it a high threat ability.

the idea here is that you do not simply spam block you keep sunder/devastate up but when you are low on health/know a big hit is coming/intercept another player and block the hit, you do this and you stop the damage. if you have 5 stacks. you can use the ability again after 10 seconds but you are only gonna get a 60% block. because the two stacks you used up to fire the ability cant be refreshed for a few more seconds due to the mob being immune to further sunders.

you will still have to manages your sunders and in fact you will need to do it more as now you are consuming them to block. no more just sunder em up and devastate and forget about it. this would be cool i think but I'm no wow dev.

Know Your Lore: The Third War part one {WoW}

Feb 17th 2010 7:33PM i take a great issue with how Medivh is speculated on in this article. That he could see the future is not in doubt. what he intended to change in that future and his motives, I believe are far less sinister then what is being offered here.

fist look at who he is. he is hands down the greatest mortal magic user ever, period. his body was the incubator of the spirit of the greatest warrior of the titans, and the most evil. he lived in a ancient tower that had the ability to show visions of the past and the future and the present as if they were overlapping wormholes, you were actually there in present and the "vision".

this man had every possible advantage and power the world could offer him. to say he could be arrogant and bullish is an understatement. this does not change the fact that he is always correct. there is much to debate about what he wsa trying to do, what he did know and what he didn't, but im sure of this. look at his character, in his heart he is a man that was in thrall from the moment of his conception. it was his mothers love and her last sacrifice of her magic that gave him a second birth. now free of the titan, the true man is revealed. he is still tainted by the evil but he is not evil any longer.

knowing what was coming, he went to the the three powers of the time. thrall and Terenas and mal'furion. 2 followed him one didn't. would you force someone aginst their will to do you bidding? even if you know that if they dont the cost in blood will be monumental. do you think that after spending his entire life enslaved to that titan, that he would dare do that to another? even showing them what he knew, would that not still be taking their choice away from them? for a man that is forever tainted with the evil of that titan, i think he swore in his heart to never force anything on anyone ever again. that choice, right or wrong, was his goal. hopeing that they would make the choice for survival.

look what happened as a result.

now imagine what if Terenas had listened. the grand alliance would have been in retreat when the scourge began. the undead would have had no champion. the entire events of the third war would have played out wholly differently. the horde night elves, humans, would have been ready to deal with the world tree and the well when Kt would have eventually showed up, with far weaker forces as most of the humans having fled when they were supposed to had not become fodder for the scourge. the undead would have been wiped out with the collective might of the combined armies. then with Medivh spurring them on to northrend, they would have slaughtered the nacient scourge and destroyed the lich king forever because his forces would be so small to have them run mindless would have been a manageable thing then.

Medivh wanted to stop the future he saw without makeing it one that he crafted for himself. he wanted a future where the people chose to make it what they wanted.

Blood Sport: Protection warriors overpowered? {WoW}

Jan 11th 2010 10:38PM server: the venture co
toon: Ramandu

just putting that there for any that wants to armory me.

I have been playing a Prot warrior for my guild from the pre BC days and a warrior for longer than that. small guild so no we are not cutting edge. I have followed this class for longer then most on here have been playing this game. the one game mechanic i have never understood is damage vs survivability. now i do not mean DPS, damage, the numbers that a skill puts out when it hits. WHY oh WHY must a warrior tank give up damage to get either threat or survivability. In fact the whole threat idea is just silly when you already do damage to a mob. why do i need a piss the guy off portion of a skill to exist? Oh yeah because for some reason when i swing this massive axe with my massively armored and muscled arm, I'm going to hit softer then this other guy...

blizzard needs to stop screwing over PVE because then cant balance PVP. the real answer is simple. either make some skills not function in PVP like this already do with several professions and skills or have the skills damage formula change for PVP.

I should not have to work harder in PVE to preform my role because some dev keeps getting owned on his/her mage when a warrior picks on them in PVP

Know Your Lore: The Old Horde {WoW}

Jan 6th 2010 3:37PM to draw from another fictional source, the Orcs in warcraft are a lot like the Klingons in Star Trek. A culture that places value on combat and conflict and the individual's conduct in those situations. We look at it and think bloodthirsty warmongers, to them however, their sense of self, worth, pride, honor, ect. all depend on testing oneself against whatever blocks their way, or challenges their way of life.

humans in wow are not afraid to fight, they would rather seek understanding and peace keeping a defensive stance. the Orcs will fight first and conquer and subjugate what they can and sometimes find understanding and respect in their foes depending on how they conduct themselves in battle.

there are rare humans that the orcs respect because of their actions in conflict. Tirion Fordring and Eitrigg come foremost to my mind.

A lack of Alliance pride {WoW}

Dec 9th 2009 12:42PM @snow

Exactly! there is a grand sense belonging when it comes to the alliance. this huge massive thing. However, when it comes to the individual in relation to that, it can breed the mind set of, we are so big and so huge, surly someone will come and handle this, I'll just be on my way...

in the horde its the very survival mentality, from the ashes we have built this and its up to me to ensure it still stands mindset that brings out the "FOR THE HORDE!". Its not about Conquest, for the most part. its about just trying to survive. its about knowing that my actions make all the difference in the very survival of the horde. that every scar, every drop of blood shed will matter. thrall is the figurehead of all of that. i have to make him proud of me, I must stand and defend to be worthy of his oath to us.

Dec 9th 2009 11:22AM @snow & zappow

spot on zappo,

snow I wasn't referring to the races but rather their faction leaders. All the races have their quirks, and for the most part funny silly and odd ones. when you look at the leaders however...

horde: Thrall, Sylvanus, cairne, Vol'jin, Lor'themar

of those 5 thrall is the high "king" what he says goes. the other 4 trust him and follow him completely. there is no political BS. those 4 know that with out thrall the horde would very likely tear its self apart, and as such they keep their people in line with a fervor built around thrall. it reminds me of a leader in the alliances past, a man known as Lothar.

the alliance leaders are allied but they are not friends and comrades. In the horde thrall looks to all the members of the horde as brothers and sisters. every member of the horde knows that when trouble is upon them thrall will know about and he will deal with it as if you were his own blood kin. I don't think any member of the alliance can say that about their fellow allies.

A lack of Alliance pride {WoW}

Dec 9th 2009 9:12AM its really quite simple. the horde has a tangible single leader with a god like status. the alliance until recently had... what? Some petty lords and nobles, xenophobic elves, tech obsessed shorties, and well one cool half hight with a party and drinking issue.

the horde are unified behind the figurehead of their leader, the alliance are united against...
um...

Breakfast Topic: The high cost of playing {WoW}

Dec 6th 2009 2:18PM I be honest and say that 100 plus comments to read through looking to see if someone already said this, so sorry if i am repeating someone...

I think the cost of a service should be a all toons on a server thing. for example...
name change 10 bucks US.
pick the server that you have toons on that you want to change.

in my case
silvermoon 4
lightinghoof 1
the venture co 8

i pick the venture co.
all my toons have a new option Name change
now say i only wanted to change 3 of the 8
i do the changes and when i go to logon to the game server a new window pops up saying someting to the effect of
are you done with you name changes? please complete all changes before logging on.
when you click yes it pops up another windows saying ARE YOU REALLY REALLY TO THE MOON AND BACK SURE!
click yes and your done...

now you just saved 20 bucks

all the services should be like that...
chara customization
server transfer
faction changes

pay the service, pick the server to apply it to and all the toons on that server are eligible for said paid service.
