Blood Sport: PvP keybindings -- ESDF and roaming index finger variants {WoW}

Mar 9th 2011 1:54PM +1 for ESDF. It's the most compatible control scheme for my touch-typing brain.

Might I suggest that you remap your CAPSLOCK key to something more useful? In my case, I'm a programmer, and I use a funky text editor that has me hitting ESC a lot (Vim, for the curious). I swapped the roles of the ESC, CAPS and CTRL keys on my keyboard, so I can program with less pain, and I have to reach far far away to the ESC key to use the CAPS key.

You can get something like the RandyRants.com keyboard remapper utility if you're a Windows guy. Mac users should be able to do their key remapping via built-in utilities.

Breakfast Topic: Which Cataclysm quest chain has blown your mind? {WoW}

Encrypted Text: Answers to your pre-Cataclysm rogue questions {WoW}

Nov 3rd 2010 6:33PM This whole talent shakeup makes each spec get something unique and powerful by spending the first talent point. Non-Combat specs are not gimped 'til later levels, they get something immediately useful.

What made Combat such a strong leveling build before 4.0.1 was that you could use whatever weapons you came across, and you had immediate access to Imp SS, which every level 1 rogue starts off with. Assassination didn't have access to Mutilate before level 50, Sub didn't get access to Hemorrhage right off the bat either, so both specs were somewhat gimped 'til they got into the deeper parts of their trees.

Pick whatever spec you want to level as, and stick with it at max level. The developers have been repeatedly affirming that they will work to keep the specs nearly equal at endgame, and keep them feeling fun.

24 hour maintenance for select servers on Tuesday {WoW}

Jul 19th 2010 2:01PM These servers are all hosted in the Boston datacenter. The Los Angeles and Dallas Datacenters have already been done, so all that remains are the Seattle and Chicago datacenters. You can check what datacenter your server is hosted in at http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php?title=US_realm_list_by_datacenter.

AddOn Spotlight: NeedToKnow {WoW}

Apr 29th 2010 4:48PM I recommend to you NeedToKnow's sister addon, TellMeWhen (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/tellmewhen.aspx). TMW shows the relevant icon with its cooldown model, which I find more compact and unobtrusive than a timer bar. It allows for upwards of 8 groups of icon clusters to be displayed, so the ceiling is much higher than the bars limit in NTK.

Both NTK and TMW were both developed by the same developer, TMW should feel at home for you, since the menu system is almost the same as NTK's. It also shows when procs are available, such as revenge or overpower procs.

Insider Trader: Building the better bank alt {WoW}

Jan 22nd 2010 7:05PM The recent mailbox love given to many old-world cities is a welcome addition to the game, but both Ironforge and Thunder Bluff got missed in the shuffle.

For Alliance people, Stormwind has become more viable for keeping a banker at, what with the mailbox added next to the AH there. Undercity's new mailboxes next to each AH "spoke" in the inner hub are very nice, removing the main minus to having a banker there in that the only mailbox was placed on the upper ring next to the innkeeper. I'm tempted to level my Horde banker to 20 so I can run my entire mail-AH-bank circuit with the convenience of remaining mounted at all stages, nothing possible in any other city in the game.

Insider Trader: Blacksmith and Jewelcrafting {WoW}

Dec 19th 2009 4:49PM I recall in the Blizzcon '09 professions panel, one of the devs made an offhand comment about a plan to allow profession bonuses to be more flexible come Cataclysm. I'd love to see this elaborated on.

Preparing for BlizzCon: Money -- you're going to need it {WoW}

Jun 26th 2009 7:03PM I live in the area, and there's a good range of fast food businesses within walking distance of the convention center--but, there are not enough to handle the surge of convention goers. I made the mistake of going to the nearby Taco Bell and Carl's Jr. for lunch on the 2 days of the convention, and it was nearly a half an hour wait to get my food. I should have walked a little bit farther to my apartment and eaten there.

If you really can't handle the wait, and are living on a budget, it's possible to go to the Target down the road a bit to stock up on food to eat in your hotel room.

Elemental Shaman, Priest solo Onyxia {WoW}

Dec 16th 2008 7:03PM Considering that there's only one potion per fight, and bandages only go so far, rogues are right out.
