The Queue: Patch 3.2 and Beyond the infinite {WoW}

Jun 22nd 2009 12:15PM Actually, killing Yogg-Saron is secondary. The death of Loken brought Algalon to Azeroth, and if not defeated, the entire planet would be outright destroyed by the Pantheon, instead of just being controlled by some mouth monster.

Reader UI of the Week: Twigleaf's healer UI {WoW}

Jun 22nd 2009 8:32AM WoW's default UI is horrible. Look at a WoW unit frame:

200 by 100 pixels = 20,000 pixels of screen real estate

Relevant information (player health/mana, pet health/mana):

125 x 10 pixels = 1,250 pixels
125 x 10 pixels = 1,250 pixels
75 x 7 pixels = 525 pixels
75 x 7 pixels = 525 pixels

Total = 3,350 pixels out of 20,000 are used for conveying information, or 16.7%.

This is for something as crucial as a player's own health and mana. Plus it's defaulted to the top left corner of the screen, which is impossible to see in any encounter where you need to be watching your feet for void zones/etc.

Reader UI of the Week: Twigleaf's healer UI {WoW}

Jun 22nd 2009 8:14AM " Something I don't quite understand is why one needs a full bar + icon + full name + timer to display buffs and debuffs. Could you perhaps limit yourself to arranged icons with the timer displayed in an abbreviated fashion underneath? As it stands, it feels like they just take up unnecessary space."

Because you can find a buff faster when the names are also displayed? Because you can see when a buff is running out faster when it's a bar instead of just text?

UI is about functionality as much as it is about looks.

"I'd set Recount/Omen to be hidden until you need to look at them."

Um, Omen doesn't show anything out of combat, so when exactly would you look at it?

Battleground leveling and experience changes in Patch 3.2: Twinks v. Twinks {WoW}

Jun 18th 2009 3:15PM No, the object of Battlegrounds is to win.

I bet you're the tard who fights on roads for no reason.

The Spreading Taint plans pride parade on Proudmoore {WoW}

Jun 13th 2009 7:24AM The thing about pride parades is that they include insanely oversexualized people. There's a difference between being prejudiced against gay or transgendered people and being prejudiced against some topless fat guy in assless chaps.

This isn't just about the "ick factor" for straights (not that there's anything wrong finding assless chaps icky, regardless of orientation), it's about giving closeted gays a dichotomy between "stay in there" and "come out and stand next to this guy in sequined panties, a boa and nothing else".

Some things don't belong on the streets. The minutiae of your sexual kinks are a part of those things, in the minds of most people, straight or gay.

Phat Loot Phriday: Fang of Oblivion {WoW}

Jun 13th 2009 7:00AM Can you give me any reason to like it?

What does this article give me that the Wowhead page for the item doesn't?

If the "Senior Editor" of likes page views and ad revenue, maybe he can exert a little bit more effort than "oh hey this page lists Feral Attack Power, let me link to that thing about new cat forms we had earlier this week".

A suggestion - if you can't come up with a better reason to post a Phat Loot Phriday than "today is Friday", then don't.

Addon Spotlight: Essential addons for raid leaders {WoW}

Jun 12th 2009 10:35PM "Because not everyone (healer) needs recount."

First of all, a raid leader, even if they're a healer, needs recount.

Second, if you can't think of uses for it as a healer, you're not very clever. How about when you have to decide which DPS to prioritize when other healers are down and some of them are likely to die? Picking the lower DPS to heal could mean the difference between a wipe and a kill.

If you're a shaman healer and you're on of the people tasked with interrupting, you can use recount to keep track of who is doing their job and who isn't.

You can check which non-tanks are taking too much damage and tell them to step out of the fire.

New zeppelin and portals coming in Patch 3.2 {WoW}

Jun 12th 2009 10:22PM It's epic the first time you go through that.

It's maybe even epic the first time you take a new alt through that.

It's anything but epic when you're doing it for the 7th time on that character at level 66.

Phat Loot Phriday: Fang of Oblivion {WoW}

Jun 12th 2009 10:18PM So basically Phat Loot Phriday means "I copypaste a random tooltip and bloat it up with random uninformed crap"?

You don't even bother checking the wowhead comments to see if it drops from a hardmode, you don't bother checking how many guilds have actually completed IC hardmode, you don't bother checking rogue/shammy forums to see if this is a particularly wanted item, you don't bother checking if a feral druid would ever use it (they wouldn't).

Why bother with the post at all? We can all go to wowhead and Browse Items -> Weapons -> Daggers and organize by item level.

Upcoming mount changes {WoW}

Jun 11th 2009 3:49AM My warrior has acquired 29k gold since 3.0, and my DK has acquired 28k gold since WotLK hit. My warrior had epic flight long before 3.0, and raided actively, so there was plenty of money made and spent.

With 60k gold made since November, the prospect of spending 21k to just be able to play my alts without it feeling like pulling teeth is not my idea of fun. I'd like to maybe buy a chopper, or a mammoth with vendors. Get a nobles deck for my hunter, berserking for my pally's first ilevel 213 weapon?

Epic flight was the ultimate money sink in TBC. These days it's just a necessity. The very notion of using a 60% flying mount to quest in Icecrown is ridiculous.
