Feb 12th 2009 2:36PM I already run into this problem some; as a Death Knight I can easily switch between tank and dps roles just my changing out gear rather then having to respec. So I can clear trash as dps, and then toss on tank gear if the boss fight requires an extra tank. Even with the future advent of multi-specs, I doubt I'd go that route with my DK.
And since I can both tank and dps various fights within the same raid, even the "roll for what role you're running as" becomes kinda nebulous - do I not roll on a tank piece that dropped just because X fight only required two tanks; do I not roll on a dps piece that dropped because Y fight required 4 tanks; or do I have to declare a "main spec" that I'd be rolling for before even stepping into the raid?
(When I run 10-mans with my guild, it's not a problem, but 25 mans requires running with allied guilds as my guild doesn't have the interested numbers to run 25s yet)
Feb 10th 2009 4:58PM By the time I started playing the game (a few months after release), there was still a magic "skill", but this skill automatically incremented by 5 every time you leveled instead of requiring you to cast spells to gain those points. You'd see:
"Congratulations! You have reached level 6!"
"Your Holy skill has increased to 30!"
"Your Shadow skill has increased to 30!"
(or something similar along these lines)
So the -100 Holy skill or -100 Shadow skill you'd get from the curse in Shadowfang Keep actually meant something for casters for a while.

Jan 30th 2009 2:46PM Get a better guild. ;)
Not every class is a "top of the charts" dps-capable class, and Paladins are ones that can be there in certain favorable situations, but not often. You might be higher up the charts against undead in Naxx, for example, but your dps will lag behind against the dragons in OS and EoE, where several paladin abilities don't apply.
As a Ret Paladin, you provide extra utility. You can usually keep Replenish up constantly, and your judgement spells help restore health/mana for those classes performing combat actions, as well as increase the critical strike chance of the said players.
And if things start looking bad, you can help with heals for a spell or two, or crowd control with your stun and with Repenance.
So if a guild is only looking at how much damage you're doing to judge whether or not you're a good dps... why are you with this guild in the first place?
Jan 18th 2009 3:32PM Actually, currently the 60-65 instances outland instances (such as Ramps and Underbog) only gave rep up to a specific level for on-level characters (honored for Thrallmar, I believe the same for CE), so this change wouldn't affect acquiring Thrallmar or Cenarian Expedition rep via non-70 instances.
However, for level 80s that did not obtain exalted status with the Outland factions pre-Lich King, this change will allow them to run Outlands instances that give rep up to exalted, such as Shattered Halls or heroics, and receive full reputation instead of partial reputation for killing level 70 grays.
Dec 19th 2008 7:42PM I see Shadow-tree spells on Obama's toolbar, specifically Mind Flay and Vampiric Embrace. So he's at least 21 in Shadow
