Oct 28th 2011 10:22AM My calling is simply being a druid. Since TBC when I first turned feral, I adored my ability to adequately perform two roles with one spec. Even after they tried to further differenciate bear specs from cat specs, I always used a hybrid build (as I still do now, yes, I miss Perseverance, big whoop.), and never understood people that dismissed it as impossible. "Oh, sorry, I can't turn tank, because I chose the 0.3% dps increase that is Feral Aggression over being crit immune. Because fuck being useful to the group, I just chose every crappy talent that mentioned one of my rotation's abilities in the tooltip.". This pigeon-hole mentality is what led to druids having 4 specs, which I find profoundly wrong.
In Cataclysm I've mostly favored healing, since it got a lot more interesting than the spamfest that was late WotLK. Especially in the beginning when mana mattered more, you could really tell the bad or mediocre healers from the great ones, and since I belonged in the latter group, that also worked very well for getting a raid spot. But even though we got to the point where we basically reforge out of spirit, it's still, to me, the most enjoyable and rewarding role to play right now. I'm sure you healers know that "I'm awesome" feeling you get after a healing-intense boss kill, like, say, heroic Rhyolith. ;)
But in spite of all the healing, I always keep my hybrid feral spec in case I need to turn dps, or tank, or to solo old raids for cash. Flexibility all the way.
Sep 23rd 2010 5:31PM Almost all of the ideas in that wowwiki page seem unfeasible. Most seem to contain sentences like "a Rogue hero class", or "a hero class for druids". That's completely wrong. Who was death knight a hero class "for"? No one. They are missing the point that "hero class" means nothing more than "new class" to Blizzard, and a new class needs to be completely unique, not some sort of Mage or Druid on steroids.
Then there's some that are cool ideas but are difficult for other reasons. The Brewmaster for example, is a really cool idea (and so are Pandaren, for that matter), but it would be really difficult to make it work. For instance, what would be its three specs? Ale, lager and stout? Same goes for the Mountain King and Spellbreaker, the couple of unique spells they had in previous Warcraft games have already been given to other classes, leaving them with no unique attacks whatsoever. Not to mention a "Spellbreaker" looks like too specific a counter to magic-based classes, and that would probably mess PvP balance if not properly executed.
Now, the Runemaster I suppose could be made unique since there are many many possibilities with something as vague as runes, but with Death Knights utilizing runes and runic power as a resource system it would be a bit repetitive.
The Demon Hunter is one class that is most frequently suggested, but personally I think we don't need yet another hero class that's a melee damage dealer with shadow damage. Yes, you want to be Illidan. Not gonna happen.
The Witch Doctor looks like the only possible next hero class to me. It sort of combines two very different classes, the Shaman and the Warlock, and could be unique enough to be a new class, combining shadow, fire, nature, necromancy and healing.
A good idea would also be something dragon-based, maybe some clothie melee/caster/healer hybrid. Perhaps a Red dragonflight tree for melee damage with melee attacks scaling from spellpower, a Blue dragonflight tree for magic damage and a Green dragonflight tree for healing, with each tree having a talent giving you combat bonuses and minor aesthetic additions (such as horns and a tail), colored according to what tree you've chosen.
Sep 10th 2010 8:03AM I don't see him mentioning a specific target demographic anywhere in this or the other post, therefore I assumed it was aimed at everyone. Also, if you just implied i am a PvPer, I am deeply insulted.
Sep 9th 2010 12:38PM Basil, you need to learn what slack is. Some people would never log into the game and farm something just for money. They'd much rather farm the materials for something they need themselves, because if they didn't spend all that time farming the materials, they wouldn't spend it farming money either. They'd just do or play something else, because farming money is so mind-numbingly boring they'd rather have their eyelashes removed with a chainsaw. So please stop acting like you've discovered the wheel with that "opportunity cost" crap.
Jun 22nd 2010 6:22AM "I made a moonkin, but I opted out of giving it what is possibly its only defining external characteristic!"
Yea, I think it's pretty much called an owl now.
