May 20th 2011 4:54PM @kunic "Boycotting has never and will never work"
I read a lot of ignorant comments on here but that one beats them all.
Boycotting does work, and it works very, very well, because in the end all that companies care about is their profits, and when those start hurting they start listening. Or they die.
Childish? No. What's childish is acting like the kind of sheep you want people to be, happily giving their money to a company that knowingly sold them a piece of crap. Adults don't act like that, they spend their money more carefuly because, y'know, it's their money that they had to work hard for and not just mommy's credit card.
May 10th 2011 9:15PM "Players are consuming Cataclysm's content faster than any expansion before it"
No they aren't, there's just less of it. That, plus the disastrous effects on the community of LFD + harder instances, is why subscriber numbers are down.
I'm surprised it's taken this long for any figures to emerge tbh, it was obvious that people were quitting in droves even back in February when my own subscription ended. The end of March was 6 weeks ago, I wonder how much worse the numbers were for the end of April.
Well I hope the Cata design team got a good kicking, they deserve it. Worse expansion ever, and a lot will have to change before I'm tempted to renew again.
Mar 2nd 2011 2:26PM "Unfortunately the speed/teleport hacks function by exploiting a hard feature of the game-- namely that the client tells the server where the character is. So the hacks send a false signal to the server, teleporting the character around the map. Presumably changing this part of the game would take drastic changes and would probably result in more problems than it solves. So it's easier to just look for people exploiting a known vulnerability than change everything and open themselves up to new ones."
No, not good enough.
Nearly all multiplayer clients work that way, FPS as well as MMORPG, but many of them manage to have protection against speed/teleport hacks. You just need some code on the server to check that the requested movement is valid, and if it's not (i.e. you got from point A to point B faster than you should have) then you get kicked.
It's not rocket science. It's simple common sense design. Any server that blindly accepts input from a client without validating it is poorly designed.

Couldn't agree more. This site is becoming worthless, I no longer regard it as my primary source of WoW news.
The majority of the readers here are fanbois who will vote down any post that is critical of Blizzard.
The majority of the writers aren't much different. Think of the last time you saw an article here that was critical. Doesn't happen. What you get instead is "Tol Barad is completely broken, BUT I STILL LOVE IT", or articles that are just PR fluff defending Blizzard's mistakes.
PS. The ranking system here is more broken than most people know. Clear cookies, reload page, vote again. Feel free to abuse it.
Jan 20th 2011 8:19PM Not only better, but far, far, far, far cheaper.
Might as well title this column "How to waste 10k gold".
Jan 19th 2011 8:18AM Lol @ TBC heroics were a faceroll. That really is hilarious.
I propose a new category, "Wrath Teenager", for people who think they know it all and comment on TBC/Vanilla without having a fkn clue what they were like.
Jan 17th 2011 6:51PM Can we have a hunter column about hunters please, instead of yet another piece that reads like Blizzard PR fluff. I'm beginning to wonder if some of the writers on this site have any kind of impartiality left at all.
Jan 17th 2011 6:47PM Wow, he gets downrated for telling the truth, that hunters suck in PvP at the moment?
Everyone knows this, even other classes know this.
And yet idiot fanboys who very obviously don't have a clue about PvP will argue with him about it and downrate him because he's right and they're wrong.
Jan 17th 2011 8:45AM Lol, I was wondering about that too. Is the author being paid by Blizzard for this PR fluff?
Suggesting that the upcoming patch 4.0.6 is any different than what happened after WotLK launch is also complete bollocks;
21 Jan 2009 - patch 3.0.8 (many class changes and bug fixes)
14 Apr 2009 - patch 3.1.0 (Ulduar)
Let's see how many people are not "clamoring for new content" in another THREE MONTHS if they follow the same schedule.
Jan 13th 2011 11:47PM Except you can't do that at L85.
They're going to fix that issue in patch 4.0.6
