Breakfast Topic: Do you have a favorite race? {WoW}

Apr 22nd 2011 9:10AM Trolls are my favorite, with Tauren a VERY very close second. It would be dead even if the Tauren culture had any segment of it that appreciated the arcane arts. I'm also quite a fan of Goblins and the Forsaken as well, though the Forsaken is strictly an animation thing, I can't stand them as a people/culture.

On the Alliance side, I absolutely dig the Draenei, the Dwarves, and the Worgen, for both a combination of their culture and animations (though Worgen caster animations are awful). I don't really have much against Gnomes aside from the longstanding Horde desire to punt them all. Wouldn't play one, but I don't hate em.

I won't play Orcs or Humans until they update the ingame artwork for them and they chuck out their toolish faction leaders. Night Elves have some hideously ugly animations on their males, and the females are hypersexualized to the point of ridiculousness. Blood Elves just annoy me, because most of my guild will only play them because they're pretty, and I honestly don't much like their animation work.

Breakfast Topic: Has Cataclysm been a game-changer for you? {WoW}

Apr 10th 2011 11:22PM Oh yeah, in a number of ways.

1. Prior to late Wrath, I never had a toon with a tanking or Healing offspec. I refused to do it. Way too much stress, way too much chance for a slipup and then you get screamed at. Not interested, no thank you. I'll stick to my Mage, Warlock, DPS DK, DPS shaman, and DPS druid.

Near Wrath's end, I decided to actually try out healing. I leveled my priest in Random dungeons healing. I offspecced Resto and started healing heroics and some random alt raids. Eventually, I started getting brought in to farm ICC content. And you know what? They were FUN!. I loved healing all of the sudden, and I kept doing it for a long time on both of them.

Cata's healing changes brought all that fear right back. I tossed the Resto spec and picked up Enhancement again on my Shaman. The Priest went back to Shadow.

Tanking? Well I was never interested in it to begin with, but reduced AOE threat across the board for all tanks? Oh hell no. Even LESS interested, way too many chances to screw it up and get screamed at. Don't need that.

Now? Well, now things have improved. My druid has a resto offspec he's using for instance leveling in the Cata content. Still scared, but trying it. The priest picked up a disc offspec again. Getting Penance at 10 was a huge part of that (I love that spell). And I'm actually learning to tank on my Paladin.

2. My Mage main...well for a while I HATED him. Arcane was awful, and Fire required WAY too much mana management. Beyond the point of being fun. Now they've made it better, and I'm hopeful that 4.1 will bring Arcane and Frost up to snuff as well, So that's nice

3. The big thing? I quit raiding. Not for any real reason of Cata, but just life changes. I'm getting married soon, and having been in a long distance relationship, I had to miss a LOT of raiding anyway during late Wrath, and it didn't get any better in Cata of course. RL > WoW, so I decided a change was needed. Now I focus on more casual content. Which SUCKS because the new Heroics are too damn long for that. I don't care if you make all of them hard, just make them smaller, or keep them at the same size and bring back AOE. Really, why do people care about TRASH being hard? Bosses, yes, but Trash is just boring.

I've been more working on leveling with some new and some racechanged toons. Priest and Paladin got new life as Tauren and as my designated toons to play with the fiancee, the druid is now a troll and amazingly fun again, and the DK as a Goblin, well, I'm excited to level him.

4. Rift has taken me away for a couple of months, but I really do think I'm about to head back to Azeroth. I still want to experienece all the new zones (and yes I do think the questing is better. It might be too "on rails" for some, but the STORY is far better, and doing quests that tell a story is FAR more fun than doing a set of disconnected tasks for random people). Plus the Fiancee has been able to afford to get back in, so date nights in Azeroth shall resume!

I do like the idea of having more time to play more games. Not just MMOs, either.

So yeah, Cata's been a positive experience for me so far.

Breakfast Topic: Do you have a roleplaying or off-duty outfit? {WoW}

Apr 6th 2011 1:00PM My troll mage used to wear the Mage Tier 9 (with Illumination) around town as kind of his "uniform" as a part of the Horde. Nowadays he does the same thing with Tier 8 as a way to silently tell others that he considers his Kirin Tor membership to be of higher value to him ever since Garrosh took over.

He's also got a full tuxedo with Brewfest Hat, a Bloodsail Pirate outfit, several suits from the Lunar Festival, Several Dresses from Love is in the Air (great for shock value and laughs from his guidmates), Tier 7 and 10, along with some iconic weapons from each tier to complete the look.

Know Your Lore: Rhonin, leader of the Kirin Tor {WoW}

Mar 19th 2011 11:33PM The amount of hatred in these comments....it makes me sick, honestly.

I like Rhonin. Admittedly, all I've read that featured him was War of the Ancients, but I liked him in there. And I really loved seeing him yell at Varian and Garrosh in the Ulduar trailer (though I wish he'd just gone ahead fried them both right then and there. Maybe Azeroth would be less of a mess)

Officers' Quarters: A RIFT in leadership {WoW}

Mar 14th 2011 12:38PM I hate to say it, but they REALLY flubbed the endgame in Cata. Badly. It's just not as fun as Wrath was. The healing model changes still leave a bad taste in my mouth, and I really hated playing my own main in endgame for so long (As a mage, Arcane was pathetic, Fire was far less fun due to the over-focus on mana management, and Frost, well, Blizzard still doesn't seem to know what they're doing with this spec). At least the old world changes and questlines are still new and fresh. Those, coupled with all the friends I still have playing WoW, mean I'll be back at some point. But for now, Rift is a lovely change of pace, and face it, their class system outstrips WoW's by far. WoW could seriously stand to take some notes here.

Breakfast Topic: How are your characters coping with moral dilemmas in game? {WoW}

Mar 14th 2011 8:47AM I made a hasty vow during the days of early Cataclysm rumors that if it was true that Garrosh would become the Warchief, I'd cancel my WoW account. Of course, the more we heard about Cata, the more I was excited (Old world revamp and flying? w00t!). I thought for sure this would be the greatest expansion ever. Now? I quit raiding, then put my account on hold for at least two months to enjoy other games. It's just not there for me, and I wonder if even subconsciously, it's because I REALLY hate working for that toolbag Garrosh. I always enjoyed having the feeling that the Alliance were blind morons who didn't REALLY know the Horde, because we were (mostly) nothing like what they thought we were. Now we are, and it's slightly uncomfortable.

Taking out the trash {WoW}

Jan 26th 2011 6:35PM I disagree wholeheartedly with this Article. Trial of the Crusader was one of my favorite instances ever for the very reason that it lacked trash.

Trash is annoying and time wasting. I preferred when it could be AOEd down quickly because then we could get to the real fun of being in an instance: The Boss encounters. Those are where the challenge and fun should be.

Breakfast Topic: What's a deal-breaker in your love for a particular race? {WoW}

Dec 27th 2010 9:35AM I consider 2 things when picking a race

1. How much I enjoy the race's lore and culture
2. Animations

I can't play Humans, because I hate Varian Wrynn with a passion. Plus humans in this game look incredibly stupid. Same goes for Night Elves, male night Elves are in my opinion the ugliest looking model in the game right now. Plus their casting animations are horrendous. Worgen, I'm still evaluating, but I'm VERY disappointed in their casting animations. They look like they're just flailing about randomly and BOOM! Hey there goes a fireball! It's lame. And being a Horde guy primarily, I'm just naturally prejudiced against Gnomes.

On the Horde side, I won't roll another Orc or Blood Elf again. Orcs, I simply am not a fan of their animations, and ever since Cataclysm, I'm growing less fond of the race as a culture thanks to Garrosh. And I despise Blood Elves. Casting and Melee animations are boring, and I have a large number of guildmates who will only play elves cause they're pretty. We're the friggin' HORDE. The monster faction!! We shouldn't be doing pretty!! I was never so happy the day that 4.0.3 came out and I could turn the last Blood Elf in my character selection screen (the Paladin) into a Tauren.

I'm a big fan of Dwarves and Draenei on the Alliance side, and Trolls, Tauren, and Undead on the Horde. Still evaluating Goblins, but they've been a lot of fun so far, and who doesn't love yelling "Steeeeeeeeeeeeerike!" when casting a fireball?

Arcane Brilliance: What to expect for mages in patch 4.0.1 {WoW}

Sep 19th 2010 12:48AM I love the fire changes, I absolutely ADORE the changes made to Frost (with the exception of the extreme uselessness of Blizzard now), but I am appalled at the state of Arcane.

I just cannot believe what they've done to the spec. They had it so close to sounding awesome with the idea that Arcane Barrage would trigger AM. That would remove every aspect of the spec that I hated (the extreme RNG dependance). Now the AB stacks don't even affect AM or AB damage? I mean, wasn't that the whole point of Arcane Blast in the first place?

I'm currently duel-specced Fire and Frost now, and that is damn sure not changing when this patch drops. Arcane had such potential....now it's just more of the same boring rotation I got sick of a long time ago.

The Queue: Kill with fire (no really, use your Firebats) {WoW}

Aug 12th 2010 3:09PM What's the deal with Garrosh's new appearance? I suppose most of it can be described as a model update, but there has to be an explanation for those glowing eyes. Anything in the beta explain that?
