Apr 3rd 2012 1:10PM I will not say I hatePVP with a passion.. but I despise it for the same reasons that abounded when AOL Neverwitner Nights was online in 2800 baud glory.

Some classes plain old have an inherent advantage over others in the realm of PVP.

Frost mages, holy paladins, rogues to name a few specific to WoW.

In old AOL NwN, when they converetd from the SSI gold Box games they literally ripped the code out of the engine that allowed physical DPS to damage another player. Thus the only ones who could damage other players were spellcasters.

It got so bad that if you wanted to run through an area called the Lost hills, you better be in a group of spellcasters, even though you would be a maxxed out fighter/ranger/etc.

Carrying that lesson to WoW, some classes have too many PvP tools compared to others.

Rogues...? stun lock, kick, gouge, stun lock.. etc..
Frost mages ? frost freezes in place, frost bolts, fiireball, repeat..
Holy paladin..? holy shock, divine prot, divine shield, lay on hands, repeat..

So, why bother when in even a 1 on 1 situation u have zero opportunity to make ev en a decent showing?

Paraphrasing, pretty dayumed sad when some classes have to be escorted nearly through battlegrounds. It is not a "fair go" to have to play a overpowered class.. when it is NOt your favorite class to play.

Thus, I will run PvP on very rare occasions. And I avoid School Of Hard Knocks like it was the plague.

if they kill 25 man raiding, then my raiding days are done. As raiders go, I fall into the decent-but-not-uber-layer of raiders. Some fights now in Cata I am really good at, others I plain old suck tail pipes (looking at you Spine!!).

if they go all 10 man, then looks like I am done.

The rumor is that they did exactly that, at the after hours parties for Blizzard peeps and such. With banners strung showing "HORDE-CON 2011".

I will freely own up to it the rumor is false.

I would like for a wow-insider staffer to comment, if they have knowledge one way or the other.

Likew I said, will tell volumes about the mindset at Blizzard.

Did the developers, their family, and friends host a private "Horde-con" after the official Blizz-con events of the day?

The answer will tell volumes about the favoritism.

The problem with that line of thought is the danger of making the faction being beat into a rage .. is the beating. The thing about fans and customer, they all have a mind of their own and tend to decide for themselves what is fun or not.

Thus, if the questing/playing of one side is "Not Fun", pretty soon no one will play that faction.

WoW kind of teeters on a fence in this regard. They are getting the results, as in faction rage, thhat they want. At the same time, the 1-60 levleing experince in particular for Alliance, at times, borders on maddenly frustrating.

The same examples of the ending to the worgen starting area, Andorhal, swamp of sorrows, westfall in flames, the nuke in stonetalon, allinace entrance into twilights highalnds (after the decent quest line with Anduin, the hero gets stuffed into back of a biplace like so much bags of corn).. etc.. etc.. etc..

It is frustrating enough that more than a few have talked of going somewhere else for their fun.

I will give one more example that illustrates the point a bit more clearly I hope. The Wrath luanch event was invasion of the scourge into many cap cities. High level players would be infected, and then run to razor hill and goldshire. It wasn corrupted blodd pt 2. Low level characters would die instantly form the high elvel infection spead.

I would give names but will preserve their anonymity. Several new players I met basically said if this is WoW they wanted no part of it. It was Not Fun to get ganked and die every 5 mins by a high level disease.

The operative phrase there is Not Fun. Pretty basic and simple. Not fun = not playing.

Is that what Blizzard wants? Not fun = not playing..

a. A storyline where Varian Wyrnn follows through on his action in the Ulduar trailer and goes primeval on something Horde, s opposed to standing in his throne room and gettting saved by Anduin when someone throws a dagger at him.

b. A storyline where the Horde actually lose something "IN-GAME", instead of finding out from a post that they lost something in a book.

c. A follow-up to Myra the Wildhammer Shaman of the earthern ring. She got a lot of faacetime in Deepholm, and a bit more in Twilight Highlands. That woman has the 'tude, and is lumpy in the right places too!!

Once again, a HORDE example is used to say "You Alliance should be proud of the all-everythring that is Thrall, Savior of the planet. He is a all-giving horde leader who you should be proud of. He deigns to advise you Alliance on what to do.".

Sorry, doesn't work for me.

Blizzard appears to think the horde story is more interesting and thus works on it more and/or in more detail. All of their devevelopers want to do the next big thing for the horde.

Alliance, meh. All they are there for is to provide the foil for Horde story and advancement. Blizzard appears to think that there are no heroes to develop, there is no honor to work on Allaince, or depth to be added to the Alliance side, as they follow the same tired path of medeival defenders of the castle.

This is a bold statement, but if indeed that is the way theyr think about Alliance, then Blizzard developers suffer a real lack of imagination. There are a great many depths and nuances of story to tell on Alliaance side, but instead they get to be the Alliance version of the the Washington Generals losing yet again to the Horde Globetrotters.

Alliance developement and story have indeed dropped that low, to be a punchline for the next Horde victory as decreed by Metzen, GC, and the horde-centric development squad.

Question I would pose to Blizzard.. When you gonna put a worgen statue or a King Magni Statue next to that orc in front of the Blizzard headquarters? ... I thought so... it might detract from the message.
