The Game Archaeologist and the Nights of Old Winter {Massively}

Nov 23rd 2010 4:26PM Ahhh... MEMORIESSSS! I played this game way back in the day - was still in middle school. Totally rocked it (on my 1200/2400 baud modem)for at least one month before my parents got the AOL bill. LOL

Good times.

The Soapbox: Don't hate the game, hate the copy {Massively}

Oct 12th 2010 12:25PM Nicely written article and I agree with the comments. I have played Wow since year 1, quit it a few times (currently on a hiatus) and I am sure will be back with the expansion. It's fun to play casually, IMO, but the grind for the end-game best of the best is too much for me. I've always been a plot guy for my single-player games (being really into Dragon Age and console games such as Uncharted 2). I play different MMOs for different experiences.

Played APB (as short lived as it was) for the customization and instant PvP fun.

Played City of Heroes and Champions for the super-hero genre alone.

Played Tabula Rasa for my Sci-Fi fix.

None of them stuck, though (well, to be fair two of them went POOF!), b/c they also lacked the plot as WOW does, but they don't have the polish and addictive qualities that WOW has.

My next MMO is likely DCU Online, as I want to give the genre another chance and hope my love of DC comics will keep me interested. The one that I am waiting on as my "WOW Killer" is SWTOR. First, I am a star wars super freak, but second, it promises plots (and voice acting!). We'll see if it supplants WOW as my go-to-game, but it looks promising. Might be a nice departure as a WOW clone - definately putting the $$ into the development, but trying to (at least saying they are) take a different approach in some respects.

World of Darkness might also be revolutionary - time will tell.

My two cents, worth approximately half that I am sure.
