Apr 12th 2011 9:11AM Umm has anyone discussed that this may be a problem with the class homogenization that has taken place since WOTLK? If every class could only fill one role well this problem wouldn't be nearly as extreme. Either that or give the dps classes a heal/tank spec. Maybe this is just my sour grapes but the appeal of the classic D&D game play that the modern mmo is based on is everyone having a specific role and working as a team. Pure dps classes in wow have effectively been marginalized and its created a slew of problems.
Mar 14th 2009 2:21PM Oh yeah because Richard Garott's star power really helped Tabula Rasa top the charts. I also don't understand all the hype surrounding 38 studios. They've been a company for how many years now and haven't produced ONE screen shot of their upcoming mmo. I really feel like mmo development is extremely tricky and only a handful of companies thus far have gotten it right. I mean look at how quickly Champions Online has developed I can't believe its going to launch this summer. That's because Cryptic Studios knows what its doing. Thanks to WOW mmo development has become the new hit thing but how many mmos that were in development over the past few years actually were released (as opposed to canceled) much less were successful? The real celebrities in mmo development are the studios who have already established they can get it done.
Jan 30th 2009 9:21AM Why do you play MMOs if you want to solo the end-game? That makes absolutely no sense...I've never played an MMO that, while playing alone, even the most average single player RPG couldn't offer a better experience. What makes the MMORPG so appealing is the multiplayer aspect.
Jan 30th 2009 8:34AM Neither....both are just your run-of-the-mill dps classes. I mean their "special" mechanic of building up "rage" as they continue to fight has been done time and time again. I'll stick to my warrior priest...now that's a unique class.
Jan 25th 2009 10:48PM I have found myself increasingly disinterested in MMORPGS because of the mechanics WOW introduced. I remember playing AO/EQ/SB and going to various "camps" with a full party and clearing it out. I miss that so much, the whole quest log system with overpowered characters capable of soloing 90% of the content in the game is such a step backward in my opinion. Are there any current generation MMORPGS with clearly defined class roles that require you to group to level?
