FileFront suspending operations indefinitely {WoW}

Mar 26th 2009 1:55PM This is likely to be only the first of a series of major closings. With the tanking economy and resultant lack of subscriptions and ad income, expect more of these sites to follow Filefront into permanent closure.

Breakfast Topic: When did WoW click for you? {WoW}

Mar 26th 2009 9:57AM Ah yes... the Wetlands Gauntlet, dodging crocs, spiders, and the occasional raptor and then the dragonmaw orcs as the final obstacle to Loch Modan.

That's the only downside of the rerouting of the Auberdine boat from Menethil to Stormwind.

Breakfast Topic: When did WoW click for you? {WoW}

Mar 26th 2009 9:54AM At first I'd say it was the lore, the history of the quests in my Teldrassil days, getting the story part by part while questing for the teaching Druids in Shadowglen and Dolanaar. But really it was somewhere in the mid teens and I'm standing in Auberdine when a Druid askes me to help charter his guild, the Moonwood Rangers. I say sure. We found the the group and a couple of days later he leaves after sneaking up behind me and snapping a Guildmaster hat on my head. And after that it was one long moment when I realised I could make this a roleplaying guild.... a moment that capped when I found mysself standing side by side with the leader of the Tears of Draenor Horde guild after leading a cross-faction sweep of the Stairs of Destiny.

So it actually was one long continuous moment.

A plea against vehicle combat {WoW}

Those of you on the pro-vehicle side misunderstand. It's not "ZOMG CHANGE AND/OR SKILL, FLEEEEE", we want to play our characters because of the level of investment we have in them. If you've worked hard to get your gear (a laughable notion in the current content, but bear with me), yet some randomer wearing quest greens can perform just as well as you, it cheapens the gear.

On the other hand maybe it just means that they're just as skilled as you are in the encounter, that it's one where what phat gear you're carrying isn't going to make up for a difference in skill and strategy.

Or is your epeen so delicate that you can't bear that in these few fights your gear isn't going to be the reason you dominate over someone else?

Ammo stacks in 1000, sells in 200 {WoW}

Mar 19th 2009 3:34PM I actually don't mind the change as it is on the PTR now. I think carrying 28,000 arrows at a time is rather neat, especially after making the effort to get that pattern by making nice to the Ebon Blade.

I've never had a problem with ammunition as it is. although it did make things a bit more challenging when I put on a skinning bag as well.

Ask a Lore Nerd: Life and Death {WoW}

Mar 18th 2009 7:24PM Presumably that would be Garona Halforcen, since she wrote the Library book on Rogues that you turn for the Shendrelar quest.

Ask a Lore Nerd: Life and Death {WoW}

Mar 18th 2009 7:23PM Presumably he was answering Jaina Proudmoore's invitation to make peace with the Horde... and getting derailed by that sudden detour arranged by the Defias.

Mar 18th 2009 12:56PM The frost women of Brunhildar are not "good" in the conventional sense, they are essentially Vikings in their outlook, and they share a lot of the prejudices of other vrykul, they simply haven't responded to them in the same way, i.e. they rejected the Lich King's offer of allegience. (They're especially incensed over the "sisters" who became Val'kyr)

Are they evil? Some of them definitely are, like the one you directly rescue the goblin from. Most of the others are simply fiercely competitive and are more feral than anything else. And while they may hate the Scourge, they're not going to be allying with any of the "small" races to fight it.

Officers' Quarters: Time for another rant {WoW}

Mar 16th 2009 12:41PM When it comes to officers, members, guild harmony, the number one issue where the majority of guilds I've seen blow up is on perception of fairness or the lack of it. You can create whatever system you want for raid adjudication or loot disbursement, promotion, or whatever but if the members get a hint of discrimination, then a guild collapse can follow very quickly if the issue is not promptly addressed.

Communication and fairness, that's 90 percent of it right there.

No vanilla WoW realms. Really. {WoW}

Mar 13th 2009 11:49AM Maybe this game isn't as fun for some if more than 5 percent can see the top-ranked content. That was a major problem with the old game.

Actually for me the best improvement has been the world quests. they do an excellent job of getting you involved in the various meta arcs and Neither Classic nor BC came close to how well Wrath has done it.
