Patch 4.1: Blizzard unveils dungeon finder Call to Arms {WoW}

Apr 7th 2011 1:47AM I am a healer and a tank and this change is revolting. It is short-sighted and an insult to mount collectors and is yet one more example of how stupid the developers have gotten.

Officers' Quarters: A RIFT in leadership {WoW}

Mar 14th 2011 5:47PM "...keep in mind that there's always a bit of culture shock when a group of players with a similar mindset all join a new guild together. I'm sure, given time, you can overcome the differences."

I really disagree with this. Mostly because the writer's account is almost exactly what happened with my guild. A few of us pulled in some real life friends to build our Cata raid team and it was a huge disaster.

A small guild of wow-friends is often comprised of extremely different types of people who've nevertheless come to working arrangement. Some people are amiable slackers who are lackluster in raids but fun to have around, some people are immature, some people are dictating elitists, there are age differences, personality differences, assumptions about what's appropriate in guild chat, etc., etc. Pull in too many people suddenly of any one sort and the entire guild can become irrevocably unbalanced. Especially in a small guild.

The Light and How to Swing It: Illuminated Healing still no Val'anyr {WoW}

Mar 13th 2011 8:20PM I don't have personal experience with the pali mastery shields but one of the main problems, based on the druid Living Seed model, is that the shield will be overwritten by any heal that can apply a shield, even if the new shield is of lesser value than the existing one.

The Light and How to Swing It: Illuminated Healing still no Val'anyr {WoW}

Mar 13th 2011 3:42PM Couldn't agree more. The non-stacking and the over-writing aspect makes the mastery pointless.

It's exactly the same reason nearly all resto druids bypassed Living Seed during Wrath and are angry about having to throw away three talent points on LS now in Cata just to get to Efflorescence. How palis ended up with a mastery whose mechanics were proven by a druid talent for an entire expac to be totally lackluster is beyond me.

Raid Rx: Raid healing horror stories that taught us a thing or two {WoW}

Mar 11th 2011 3:56PM During the ZA speed run days my druid was saved so the guild asked me to bring my priest. As an alt, the priest had solid welfare gear from Kara BoJ farming runs but an extremely weird Holy/Disc "dps" build because we barely needed the 2nd healer. Needless to say I was reluctant to take her to ZA.

"Just respec full Holy and spam CoH," they told me. "It's totally OP."

The entire run I whinged about how lackluster CoH was, struggled to keep up with the damage by spamming PoH and Flash Heal. Only after our second inexplicable wipe on Hex Lord did I realize I'd been using Rank 1 CoH because I never trained the spell.

I ruined the run that night but before the recent change to auto-learning new ranks I would actually pay the gold to talent full trees and train up everything even if I thought I'd never use it, just to avoid ever suffering a repeat of that failure.

Gold Capped: Monopolizing the market {WoW}

Mar 11th 2011 1:15PM It's weird no one seems to have argued with the fact that the OP felt the perceived monopoly of BOE epics was "hurting the server in some way" for being so over-priced because that seemed to be his concern more than "how can I make gold or break into the market".

I'm totally sympathetic to the writer because I don't think most of the player base understands how easy it is to control the BOE epic market on low pop servers. Currently there are less than 10 non-crafted 359s on my server where, head's up, the Light of Dawn server first might still be up for grabs.

On the flip side, Basil's suggestion about putting in Buy Orders with raiding guilds would totally work because I think there are maybe four of them left.

Predicting Battle.net's social future {WoW}

Feb 11th 2011 3:43AM "Blizzard is chock-full of smart individuals who understand community..."

I find this quote very ironic considering the fate of the recent Exalted discussion on the General forum.

The Queue: Blue {WoW}

Feb 10th 2011 1:08PM Does a resto druid without the treant glyph get stuck inside SFK (the low-ceiling building part) when popping Tree of Life?

As a female tauren resto druid I've been stuck in many amusing (annoying) places over the past four years. I.e., the effects of Blood Lust made it impossible to walk through the tunnel to Eck in Gundrak until BL wore off, I can't get into the tiny downstairs rooms inside Ironforge even in ghost form, etc.

I would have tried SFK myself but I think the new ToL is gross.

Breakfast Topic: Should WoW bring back attunements? {WoW}

Feb 9th 2011 2:30PM I think when most people vote "Yes" for attunements they do so thinking it might somehow mitigate having horrible pug experiences.

Some attunements did serve this end by guaranteeing that the player in question was either familiar with the instance or familiar with playing their toon. The former (instance familiarity) is a good candidate for BOA status, but the latter (toon familiarity) isn't so much.

In addition to instance and toon familiarity, prior attunements worked toward insuring some level of appropriate gearing through drops or rep rewards you'd have acquired along the way to becoming attuned.

The three-pronged aspect of prior attunements (instance familiarity, class familiarity and gear level) were met to greater and lesser degrees, with the heroic BC 5man attunements being the only one which attempted to guarantee all three.

The current RDF system's weakness is (in part) the result of having only a gear score "attunement" which is easily gamed. Bringing back the Heroic MgT "attunement" (run the instance once on normal) wouldn't necessarily solve all the bad pug problems but it would certainly make more sense than "discover the door".

Officers' Quarters: The guild achievement controversy {WoW}

Dec 13th 2010 5:01PM Great article. I couldn't agree with you more.
