Blood Pact: Some advice for newbie affliction warlocks {WoW}

Apr 2nd 2012 4:06PM I disagree with avoiding tab targeting after soul burn + SOC (on big pulls). If you happen to pick a target that isn't getting enough incidental damage to set off the normal SoC's in the time it takes to cast your next one, you're wasting the GCD's. Better to chain cast the SoC's with guaranteed explosions than to overwrite one that didn't explode.

I consider the damage the normal Corruptions are doing on targets, for whatever period of time it's on them (before it might get overwritten with a normal SoC), to be bonus damage... not the priority.

Optimally, you'd target one target that is guaranteed to set off your SoC's before the next one lands. if you can do that.. great. if you can't, tab + cast, repeat.

Blood Pact: Some advice for newbie affliction warlocks {WoW}

Apr 2nd 2012 10:42AM So, I'm a Dragonwrath-toting affliction lock in a 10man guild who has cleared through madness and so far heroic morchok. So, while I'm not extremely hardcore, I do fairly well... well enough that the guild wanted to finish running me through firelands anyway ;)

Sorry, I can't quite agree with your advice on trash Megan, even for newbies. I'd tweak it thus.. First, your ideal postioning for trash is about 10-15 yards away.. about the max distance you can be while still being able to Shadowflame everything. This of course means your Soulshatter button should be hotkeyed and at the ready. There are basically two types of trash pulls in raids, 1) a few, high-health mobs, 2) many lower-health mobs.

For 1) CoE (with Jinx), apply UA and corruption to each mob, and/or Agony if they're very high health.. soul swap may come in handy. Shadowflame if the mobs are close enough to each other (i.e. NOT the tentacles before Zon'ozz, but definitely the blobs before Yor'sahj). Try to drain soul on mobs that get to 25% health.

For 2) a good example might be the scorpions at the start of FL... a 'big' aoe pull.. still 15 yards away ish from the tank. CoE (with Jinx), soul burn + SoC, Shadowflame on cooldown!, spam seed of corruption. I tend to switch targets with tab as soon as each SoC is starting to cast.. you don't lose any time really. Careful your tab won't pick any undesired targets. :) On Madness of deathwing, for the hemorrhages, the key is to SoC on them as soon as they land on the ground. You WILL have nice dps if you are able to get off 3-4 SoC's and a shadowflame... they'll probably die before their first regen cycle if everyone is helping!

hope this helps...

The Daily Grind: How many chat channels do you use? {Massively}

Feb 9th 2012 10:24AM @Cylien Oh I don't mind General + Trade being on, as that's how I'd probably hear about a pick-up raid if I was in the mood, but that said, I dim the font of them. In my peripheral vision and when compared to my more important channels, the text scroll blends a bit more into the black background I have them on.

What does brand advertising mean for the MMO? Part 1 {WoW}

Jan 30th 2012 1:20PM The problem so far with discussion about this topic (in and outside of this article) is that people are assuming that Titan will have similar game systems as existing MMO's. Characters/avatars, NPCs, levels, whatever..

It could be something *completely* out of left field, so until we know more about the gaming structure of the thing, we have no idea what "in game" actually means, as far as how players will experience it.

What if it has optional elements of augmented reality? If it mixes the real world into it's virtual world (or whatever setting), then ads are likely going to seem appropriate. The Avatar of the Ultima series actually started out on present day Earth, and then hopped a portal offworld...

First major patch and maintenance delayed for Star Wars: The Old Republic {Massively}

Jan 17th 2012 10:20AM @SiML I don't think "we" are saying that at all. It's a well-designed MMO, not average -- have you *played* the average? You can go back to Runes of Magic if you'd like to experience average. Given a year or two's worth of patches and subsystem reworks it will be viewed as top-tier. The framework is all there.

First major patch and maintenance delayed for Star Wars: The Old Republic {Massively}

Jan 17th 2012 10:12AM @Clemalum07 True. And what's with this hyperbole article? "Cleared your schedule..."?? Oh no, some *fraction* of the 15-20% of the Tor population that has hit 45+ might have cleared their schedule on a *Tuesday*? Really, article author Eliot Lefebvre? Give us a break with the needless hype.

Hyperspace Beacon: Crafting preview {Massively}

Oct 26th 2011 11:34AM @Tezcatli I agree that everyone ending up with item Y, with very little variance is boring design. Also, I think lots of people are so programmed in the gaming community to accept what 'crafting' means. People need to look at crafting *IRL* .. think of anyone artistic that you know. As a random example, think of someone who crafts custom PC case mods. Some are unique and amazing!

Even if a game system couldn't allow for infinite options considering there are finite 3D models for items, there are ways to allow at least visual differences... collectable components that take effort to acquire, color options that allow for creativity.

Wouldn't people enjoy being able to craft a gun with a dye combination, and a more ornate barrel (as an example)... you stamp your name on it, and YOU.. unique to the whole game, can build a reputation for crafting visually appealing items. Even just allowing a very wide range of color choices on item subcomponents could enable this sort of system.

5 reasons you should love Mists of Pandaria {WoW}

Oct 24th 2011 2:17PM I'm torn. One one side, I love real life pandas. On the other, I like the center-cut, medium rare sweet spot of my lore to be serious, not roley-poley silly.
