Drama Mamas: Dungeon Finder advice {WoW}

Dec 20th 2009 6:04AM @Bronwyn: "I'm in all lvl 80 epics- I would hardly call that "sucky" gear."

This is a problem - iLevel 200 gear *is* sucky now, they weren't a year ago but the newer heroics need better gear. It's not your fault, but the fact of the matter is that iLevel 200 ("lvl 80") epics are not good enough for Heroic Halls of Reflection - 200s are on a par with low end Tier 7 gear, and HHoR is tuned for roughly Tier 8 (219 and up) gear, not to mention needing better group coordination than you'll see in most pugs. Even if you can get through the healing check of the first encounter, you'll fail at the DPS check of the last encounter unless you are balanced out by some folks in tier 9 or 10 gear.

Rule of thumb: You should have at least the ilevel of gear dropped in the normal version of the instance before thinking seriously about doing the heroic version. For ToC5, that means purple 200s. For the new ICC5s, that means 219s.

But in this case, that's not the fault of the people in 200s. This is Blizzard's fault, there's no way for casuals to know that HHoR really isn't the same class of heroic as even the Pits of Saron, much less ToC5, Gundrak, UK, or Nexus. And even if they did, they didn't choose the instance, they were dumped into it.

So this is an addition problem to the useless/idiotic player: Blizzard shouldn't be dropping people with iLevel 200 gear into HHoR.

Officers' Quarters: Casual raiding 2009 {WoW}

Dec 1st 2009 4:14AM Meh. People keep saying, "pug it," but I know that in my alliance of guilds (we run several different 10-man raids) we'd generally rather not run than take anyone on a pug basis - we all just have way too many bad experiences.

How many wipes does it take to end a raid? {WoW}

Nov 24th 2009 4:20AM @crschmidt : Take another look at Volley, it was recently quietly denerfed and is pretty effective these days.

Patch 3.3 PTR: Patch notes updated {WoW}

Nov 3rd 2009 9:15PM Instead, I bet what will happen is that people will get a few Arena points and then be lured into forming an Arena team to get more.

Which is almost certainly what Blizzard intends.

Patch 3.3: Just run as many heroics as you want {WoW}

Oct 30th 2009 1:23AM The way I see it, the original non-heroic dungeon is the one where going to it and beating it in-place is important.

The heroic versions are more like souped-up tournament versions, already out of the continuity because their challenges are greater than the "normal" versions.
