Undocumented changes in Patch 3.1 on the PTR {WoW}

Feb 24th 2009 10:49AM So, looking over the massive changes to the mage class, it finally dawned on my why the "bring the player not the class" philosophy is fundamentally flawed with respect to hybrid vs. pure classes. If the DPS spec of a hybrid class is supposed to be able to do as much damage in a raid setting as a pure DPS class, why are Frost mages not considered "raid viable". Look at any serious mage forum or discussion, and both Fire and Arcane are discussed as raiding specs, but not Frost. If a hybrid class (Paladin, Druid, etc.) can heal AND tank AND DPS at the levels desired by a raid, why can't the pure classes (Mage, Rogue, Hunter, Warlock) at least have all three talent trees capable of performing at that same level in end-game PVE? (Rogues currently have it worse than anybody when it comes to raiding spec diversity, but I can't really comment on that too much as I do not play a rogue.)
