May 6th 2009 10:11AM Peter - I'm not sure I completely agree with that, given the complexity of the mechanics that govern space combat in Eve. As we all know, it's a complex game and timing is a big part of that.
But I concede that graphically it may be less demanding.
I'm just saying - I'm inclined to think it *is* possible to sort out WG, given the right code and the right hardware and enough time.
May 6th 2009 9:54AM "..but from the connections between players and them, which they may not have any control over anyway."
If Eve Online's 64-bit server farm (http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=588) and their new networking layer, StacklessIO (http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=584), can cope with over a thousand players in the same place, and push out award-winning graphics at the same time, then technically it IS possible.
The problem is that it would take Blizzard a long time to do it. It took the Eve Online team two years to finish StacklessIO. I don't know if I can see Blizzard spending that much time on fixing one battleground.
Although a rework of their networking layer would bring other benefits in the future.. and a rewrite is often a good thing anyway.
Apr 28th 2009 4:17AM "While this trick won't necessarily work in the early evening.."
lol - it won't work much at all now that everyone will be camping that spot.
I read that new eggs spawn only as other eggs are collected anyway, so staying in the same spot probably doesn't make a great deal of sense.
Besides, I'm sure I collected way more than 30 eggs in 15 minutes just by running around Falconwing Square. Although I did make a start quite early on Sunday. I'm guessing it's a bit more busy now!
Apr 27th 2009 8:53AM I started at about 7:30am on Sunday (EU) and finished something like four or five hours later. Has to be one of the easiest events, seeing as only a couple of the achievements rely on random numbers. The rest is achieved by a bit of collecting and a bit of travelling (which is much easier for us mages, I admit!).
I did spend a lot of time in Dalaran at the end just looking for a female dwarf, but luckily someone was kind enough to have their female dwarf paladin run circuits around the town in the elegant dress.. and they did it for quite some time.
I don't know if I like the fact that it was easy or if I disapprove. I'm just happy that I'm one step closer to that drake.
I'm more concerned about Children's Week if I'm honest, as I'll be on holiday from Friday to Monday.
Apr 27th 2009 6:49AM "So while it's theoretically possible to do this achievement without outside help, it'll take you an awful lot longer given that the closest level-5 town to Un'goro is Bloodhoof Village and that's a mighty long walk."
I set my hearthstone to Dalaran and then as soon as I turned into a bunny (you only need to collect a few eggs before this happens), I hearthed to Dalaran, used the portal to Caverns of Time and ran across to Un'Goro from there.
It only takes about 15 minutes tops. Easy peasy :)
Apr 17th 2009 12:19PM lol .. nothing like a bit of irony to end the week.
Apr 3rd 2009 11:18AM Why are people talking about hacks and ex-employees? It's clearly just an issue with the server or an exploit that someone has discovered, and once one person knows about it, within minutes everyone will be doing it.
I think it more likely a server problem.. perhaps database related. But for whatever reason, vendor NPCs aren't despawning like they should and people are having fun with it. It really is as simple as that.
Mar 11th 2009 12:25PM Cross your fingers and hope the draenei won't all have silly russian accents.
Mar 5th 2009 9:22AM I was just about to say the same thing :)
