Jun 22nd 2009 1:05PM There is no lore. Lore costs money to create and retcon into consistency. Far easier to build a big circle, throw some mobs into it, and have you fight them.

Reader UI of the Week: Metzerott {WoW}

Jun 15th 2009 3:07PM I don't understand the minimap in the middle-bottom of all these UIs. The minimap is something I rarely need to look at. Why does it get such a prominent placement?

Some sort of need for symmetry is all I can figure.

The Queue: You ain't nothin' but a Core Hound {WoW}

May 29th 2009 2:43PM Contracts are enforceable as written to the extent that both parties have read and fully understood the contract and its intent. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meeting_of_the_minds for a bit more on this topic.

By not reading the EULA and ToS, I'm guessing the enforceabiliity of the contract becomes a matter of what one could expect to be in a contract. "You can only use our servers in the way we allow you" would be reasonable. "We own everything on your hard drive, and your dog" would not be something a user would expect, and any sort of arbitration or litigation would find that non-binding.

Of course, EULAs and ToSs aren't contracts either, but they act a lot like them.

Also not a lawyer.

The woes of Block {WoW}

May 28th 2009 2:43PM "If block values tripled, then Shield Slam damage would skyrocket as well. You know there would be problems if Shield of the Righteous started hitting for 10k and critting for 20. Also, if Block Value also blocked magic you run into the danger of PvP balance."

It's analysis like this that makes me wish I didn't get bored at work and read wow.com.

It never occurs to you that block values could triple, but have the block value damage component of Shield Slam cut by 1/3?

PTR patch 3.1.2 build 9889: Juggernaut, Auriya's cats nerfed {WoW}

May 11th 2009 7:33PM Its not as big of a nerf as it might seem. I'm guessing a raid-buffed Arms warrior will be around 40% crit as is.

Now Juggernaut will have them crit ~2/3 of the time after a charge, rather than 100% of the time.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Weapons from Ulduar {WoW}

May 8th 2009 3:49PM "but this could fill a hole if you're somehow starved for hit while tanking at the Ulduar - 10 level. No, I don't know how you would manage that either."

Because there's no tanks walking into Ulduar 10 who are below 8% hit, right? Except, you know, most of them.

Why we should expect an expansion announcement at Blizzcon {WoW}

Apr 10th 2009 2:30PM In the interests of parity and less work for starting zones, I could see one race implemented across both factions. That is, you can be a Horde Goblin (for example) or an Alliance Goblin.

Dedicated dual wield tree for Death Knights a possibility {WoW}

Apr 7th 2009 7:35PM I'm a frost DK who loves the 2H playstyle. I'd go blood if that ended up happening, I suppose.

People who are self-righteous about their casual playstyle are just as much of *($#s as are people who are self-righteous about their hardcore playstyle.

It's everyone's $15 a month, everyone's free to spend it how they like.
