May 6th 2009 12:30PM Thank you, Azhoul exactly my thoughts.
When I played a rogue and hunter as my alts I never had any more trouble finding a group for 5mans than with my so-called "hybrid" warrior or shaman - in fact, sometimes I'm even happy about NOT being able to fill any other role than dps because with my "hybrids" I usually end up being the idiot who goes and respecs because everyone else can't be arsed filling one of the "uncool" roles or didn't even bother to collect a second gear set in the first place ...
Having all the "pures" complaining about the versatility of "hybrids" and how they can't find any raid spots or groups for 5mans, and that "hybrid" dps should therefore be punished by a damage tax seems pretty ridiculous from that point of view.
Apr 30th 2009 1:38PM Great read, as always - I myself am done with all the "equip-whoring" as I like to put it; if something drops, that's great, if not, at least I spent a fun evening or afternoon with a bunch of nice people.
Of course, warriors are in a bad position here but quite frankly: from my personal point of view, my shaman alway seemed to benefit much more from better gear ... not in terms of numbers but fun to play.
Mar 5th 2009 2:23AM I'm sorry but as stated before, this "you can go an respec" argument doesn't stand - just because I COULD doesn't mean I will or event want to.
I played my shaman (originally enhancement all the way, even in the times when it sucked big time) as resto for a long time and quite frankly: i loathed it - it's not that I don't like healing or don't like contributing to the group (my other toon is a protection specced warrior), it's just a playstyle I can't stand.
So, what am I going to do ? Exactly: spec enhancement again, gear up, learn how to use the new abilities, set up my interface properly and have fun playing as dps, just like I do with my hunter or rogue.
Granted: i bring some nice buffs to the group - but guess what ? "Pure" DPS are the ones who benefit most from them, so instead of complaining that I'm doing equal dps, you should be grateful that I'm providing you with buffs that help you do even better.
About "squishy": sorry, that's just a load of bollocks - when was the last time you levelled a rogue, enhancement shaman or off-warrior ? Exactly how many times did you need to heal or bandage yourself ? Now, please compare that to the average downtime of a warlock , properly specced shadow-priest or even mage. (/edit - just realised I left hunters out of this - probably because they DO have an edge over most other classes ... but it has been like that since the beginning, it's one of the major selling points of the class, right ?)
Blizz homogenised most classes' HP to a certain degree, als well as giving cloth and leather wearing classes abilities to make up for their lack of mitigation - for example the ~20% more mitigation plate offers against physical (and only that !) damage for off-warriors as compared to leather is easily balanced out with a much higher chance do dodge for rogues.
Face it: though every class out there seems to think they are the most important and yet face the bigges disadvantages - it's just not true.
A friend of mine kept insisting that levelling a warrior should be soooo much easier than levelling a warlock (!) because you could wear plate armour - after hours of discussion, I decided to just let him believe that until he tried a warrior himself.
Whenerver I start a dungeon group I take whatever dps is out there and who doen't seem like an ****hole, without any thought of buffs and min-maxing - I leave that kind of stuff to hardcore raiders.
Everyone else should just stop being a whiny *unt and start having fun - and if your idea of a successful dungeon run is to dominate the dps-charts (and only that !), you might want to start playing another game.
