Mar 23rd 2011 3:59PM I won't argue that hit and expertise have their uses, but when you take into account the Vengeance mechanic, their value plunges RAPIDLY as the amount of damage you take rises (i.e. in raid content). In today's current game environment, with the mechanics behind taunt, if you're reforging out of mitigation or avoidance to get more threat, YOU are the one doing it incorrectly.
If you whiff your first, hit, simply TAUNT, and you've got yourself 6 seconds of worry-free threat generation and vengeance stacking time (plenty of time to get a few hard hitters down and secure aggro).
Mar 23rd 2011 2:50PM Maybe we'd stack hit and expertise a little bit more if there were any serious gear choices that has them. I don't have a single piece of tank gear on my ilvl 350 DK with any hit rating on it, and just a couple pieces with expertise.
Mar 23rd 2011 9:23AM It's the same for me. My main (Blood DK) is exalted with all but TB, and when I hit exalted I stopped doing that particular faction's dailies. I've done the same on my alt (Resto Druid), so now I only do dailies for Ramkahen on that character.
In my (very little) free time, I run heroics, BH, and level alts.
Mar 22nd 2011 9:03AM I disagree. At least as a (reasonably geared) tank (ilvl 350), it's not a difficult instance at all. I generally chain pull and most of the PUGs I've been a part of know what to do on the bombing run and we can usually burn down the trash quickly. For the most part, the bosses are a cakewalk as long as you have someone to CC the purple trogg and DPS that have 2 working synapses to know to avoid Erudax's shadow gale and dps down the adds.
Mar 21st 2011 9:30AM I did that in BWD. I was one of the OT's, so I had switched over to my DPS spec for some trash, then we got to the Dwarves before Atramedes and I was once again assigned a tanking role. No problem, just change specs and hop in my tanking gear... I tanked one of the dwarves in the first pack, no problem. Then the second pack I was on double duty and I couldn't figure out why I had to blow all my CD's to stay alive on the trash... Then I noticed that I forgot to pop into Blood Presence... >.
Mar 17th 2011 2:39PM Additionally, mixing in that DPS gear to hit the 329 requirement doesn't help you any, either. Using Alpha Bracers is one thing (Hit and Mastery secondary stats with mastery gem bonus), but you should NOT have much crit or haste on your gear.
Mar 17th 2011 1:54PM @Geiss I couldn't agree more. While my druid isn't at all the epitome of BiS gear-wise, I have over 100k health and mana self-buffed, yet I have ran several instances where tanks have flat out refused to allow CC (as soon as a mob is CC'd, they purposefully throw out AoE damage and pop it).
I'd like to add the suggestion to ENCHANT AND GEM YOUR GEAR! Most of the best enchants are dirt cheap (easily covered by doing 30 mins worth of dailies), and there's no reason to not have the Therazane enchant if you're running heroics. My druid had just about every enchant on his quest reward healing set before stepping foot into normal dungeons.
I recently had a warrior touch on all of these pet peeves in TotT (while tanking in ungemmed or DPS gemmed, unenchanted, mostly PvP gear), and it drove me NUTS. When he decided to pull the 5-packs of trash and broke several CC's, I ended up running out of mana and then we all died.
Mar 16th 2011 4:35PM Yep. When we want to meltdown the older computers of our raid members by throwing out some additional spell effects.
Mar 10th 2011 1:48PM Stacking threat gen is even more dead than stacking stamina. Reforge that hit and expertise into more avoidance and become an even more powerful tank.
If a tank of any caliber is having threat generation issues, you're probably not in Blood presence/Prot stance/bear form/have RF up.
Mar 10th 2011 1:37PM I see 36% avoidance and 44k armor and my Blood DK cries.
