May 18th 2010 12:22PM As reported in 2009, Blizzard actually loses money on BlizzCon. I don't blame them for raising the ticket prices. It's really sweet of them to put all that work into a convention for fans of their franchises. Hopefully I can refresh my browser window as well as I did last year. Must... attend... every... BlizzCon...
Mar 18th 2009 7:39PM My #1 advice to new players joining a guild: Be self-reliant.
You do not want to be one of those new people who are always asking for gold, runs, help, favors, and advice. Many gameplay related questions can be easily researched at sites like Wowhead, WowWiki, and the Elitist Jerks forums.
I guarantee you will stick out like a sore thumb and rub everyone the wrong way if you come across as needy. I see many new players do this.
Remember that there's a difference between inviting someone on a run ("Does anybody need/want to do the Stockades on an alt? :)") and asking someone FOR a run. ("cna some1 plz run me thru stockades.")
On that note, making your sentences not painful to read is great for first (and lasting!) impressions.
Mar 13th 2009 1:35PM I see what you are saying, but I think that to the casual WoW player who has never touched the past Warcraft games, it's a good introduction to the Lich King.
The typical player didn't really know who Arthas was before picking up this expansion, and the voice over by his father I think sets the theme/mood of corruption and loss beautifully. We get the impression that he used to be a good guy, and see how far he's fallen. I really loved the irony with the voice over, and it left me wondering if there was any shred of humanity left in him.
I do definitely see how it would have been cool to have seen the Death Knight storyline, although I think it's very beautifully experienced in the game hands-on. :)
Mar 13th 2009 1:07PM The nomination is well deserved; Blizzard cinematics have blown my mind since Starcraft. And they just keep getting better.
I know this cinematic was a bit unpopular at first due to the lack of WoW characters being shown, but I personally love the increased focus on the storyline.
