Sprint takes a bite out of the Apple, touts innovative Pre features like 'multitasking' {Engadget}

Jun 26th 2009 10:34PM The telecoms do a great job of deflecting attention.

Buy the phone you want. keypad, multi-touch, video, editing, applications, multitasking, whatever. It's all about technology. This time next year we'll be talking about the rumors of the next Pre, the next iPhone, the next what have you. If you buy it for function, or status, or gaming, or work, they all do their respective jobs quite well. And they're all only going to get better. That's what great about competition; they're all really good at whatever it is they do BECAUSE of everyone else. We all should be passionate about our choices.

But what we should be bashing is not the other phones. We should be bashing the telecoms. The guys providing the service to our handset.

Right now, I have to endure crappy phone service from ATT because I want my iPhone. My wife has to suffer the short comings of T-Mobile because she wants her Android phone. And we have to deal with whatever insane pricing plans are "offered" because, well, they can set the prices as high as they want.

The phones aren't the issue, they're always going to be a little bit different from each other and have their strengths and weaknesses. ATT, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon. They should all carry the same inventory. This would force them to compete on service plans, the only product they REALLY offer. We, the consumers, would reap the benefits of low competitive pricing on phones AND service. Every consumer would win.

"She turned me into a newt!"

Breakfast Topic: What's in a name? {WoW}

Feb 11th 2007 12:37PM my warlock is jacktorrance.

I try to make my undead warlock look as much like Jack Nicholson's character in The Shining as possilble.

Misoramen, hunter with pet named Gyoza. ... mmm... hungry....

I also have a female Blood Elf priest named Ijen. My wife's nickname... Made char look as much like my wife as possible. When I play this alt and armor sets come up with similar stats, I consult my wife for fashion tips. She gets a kick out of the costumes and is more prone to let me play. ;)

Breakfast Topic: How Much Do You Tip? {WoW}

Nov 14th 2006 8:37AM I usually tip a pot or two. Or something like a couple of armor kits. They can either use or sell in AH or to vendor.

Breakfast Topic: Who Are You? {WoW}

Sep 26th 2006 8:23AM Hi Dave, Jason, my name is Tom. I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan. I'm 45 and I have a very patient and loving wife who sits on the sofa next to me watching movies when I play WoW. I have about 4 co-workers who also play; three half my age and one closer to my age – and we all have wives. I have characters on a few servers including a 60 Pally, 42 Rogue and a few lower lvl alts. I started coming to this blog about 7 months ago. It's a daily read for me. We all in advertising and design. Cheers!

Playing "Ugly" Avatars {WoW}

May 6th 2006 8:59PM I have an undead warlock on Daggerspine named Jacktorrance. So I tried to make him look as much like the Jack Nicholson character in the Shining as much as possible?that is, if he were an undead character. A few people I've run into understand the reference.

Then I created a troll on Kilrogg server and named him EstebanRey. I randomized his look rather making a caricature of Mr. King.

Duel rules {WoW}

Jan 27th 2006 1:21PM You don't get to practice fighting against a horde player if you're alliance or vice versa. Therefore, I see duels as an opportunity to learn the best fighting technique for your character. And as such, all spells and potions are fair game.

Killing NPCs aren't as relevant to player raids or battles since they don't have the unpredictability that players have.
