Sep 13th 2009 10:37AM I'll give you another con. If it's mandatory, what do you do when it breaks? And they do break. Some just die overnight (mine did, about a year after I got it), others will inevitably die due to battery at some point or another.
That could easily mean a week or two with no access to your account, while waiting for a replacement authenticator to arrive. And what if they're out of stock, like they have been many many times since they launched the authenticators?
I'm all for including it in the box, but they cannot make it mandatory.
Aug 24th 2009 10:41AM They have stated the new zones (not counting the new starter areas for the new races), are 78-85. They are making a number of changes to the 1-60 range too though, when it comes to quests. So leveling 1-60 will be different from before, not just in the scenery you are running through.
As far as simplifying Northrend like they have Outlands (and 1-60 Azeroth), I don't think they have specifically mentioned it, but I think it's a given. Outlands was dumbed down just prior to Wrath release, so I would think the same will be true for Northrend come Cataclysm.
Aug 24th 2009 10:27AM The only problem with the authenticators, is when they stop working. Mine worked fine one evening, the next day it was completely dead. Almost exactly a year old so battery was not an issue (and there was no indication with fading numbers or anything to indicate it might be getting low).
After sending a letter signed by the King, as well as multiple blood samples, to Blizzard, they conceded I was the owner of the account and removed the authenticator (slight exaggeration, but much more thorough verification and that really would have been the case).
I'm now running without authenticator. Buying a new one would cost me three times the authenticator price in shipping. While still not a whole lot of money, it just doesn't feel right.
Oh, yes, golden rule if your authenticator breaks: CALL THEM. You really don't want to wait for email response. I sent an email first, then found some forum posts saying it took ages, and called. After 15 minutes wait and another 10 or so minutes on the phone, I was good to go. Another week and a half later, I got a response to the email.

Back on topic, I'm not much of a lore fiend, but getting a relatively short and concise summary like this is much appreciated. It adds flavor.

With the amount of people viewing they must have a number of sources for the stream I would assume, you might be on a bad one. I'm in Norway by the way.
