Mar 19th 2010 2:32PM I see. I had no idea this was a part of internet culture. I feel better knowing that now, but am still worried that this is a sign of where we are going as a people. This is all so very sad.

Mar 19th 2010 11:50AM It only FEELS like it's the only way out. But only to the one who is considering suicide for him/herself. Suicide is never the answer, and it affects not just YOU when you kill yourself, but EVERYONE ELSE IN YOUR LIFE as well.

Mar 19th 2010 11:39AM That sucks, and I feel bad for both parties. It made me think about something I was regrettably involved with online a couple of years ago. I don't know if my experience applies to this situation, but I'll share. I apologize if it's off topic.

I am an avid webcomic reader, and also enjoy lurking the reader comments section on some of my favorite reads. One day I was lurking the comments pages to one webcomic I recently started reading, when a couple of people started posting what they felt were helpful and constructive critiques to the author. The guy didn't take criticism very well and eventually a flame war ensued. Usually I couldn't care less, until the author started saying things that made me get involved.

He started telling people to go kill themselves. Repeatedly. Needless to say, I got sucked in and tried to make him understand that it's very irresponsible to things like that, given that he doesn't know who he's addressing when he speaks on the net. To make a long story short, in the end he told me I could go kill myself and then banned me and everyone else from his comments page. He then said that this is how he talks in real life and signed off.

To this day I don't understand how someone could tell another human being to kill themselves. On the net or in real life. That just seems wrong. Especially when I know the world is full of people who struggle with suicidal tendencies all the time. You never know if that last poorly-worded hasty thing you said could be the last straw that pushes someone like that over the edge.

Anyway, I apologize if it was off topic. I just thought I'd share.
