Drama Mamas: Raiding deaf {WoW}

Apr 8th 2011 11:26AM I'm Hearing impaired and I raid, I've raided as both a tank and DPS. Anybody and I mean ANYBODY hardcore or casual who says you need voice chat to raid absolutely has no clue about how this game works.

No raid boss is designed around the assumption that you need voice chat, all abilities you need to react too can be found in visual cues (I'm sure tone deaf knows this). hell in my guild I react to a lot of them before the "superior" hearing people :P Being Deaf or hard of hearing means you pay attention to visual cues a lot more, we tend to notice things like that quickly.

However that said it is not other peoples fault that we can't use a simple quick and handy (to them) way of communicating during the battle. We need to be open from the start, in my current guild, Right from the beginning I told them vent was just impossible for me, they decided to try it out (they were actually quite curious about the whole thing :P ) as a DPS role (ie not a critical role like tanking), once they saw that I was not half bad I got to tank a little as well :D In general don't assume people are going to be idiots, but don't overload them as well, do baby steps start off in a more forgiving role and get them to start trusting you as a competent player, one that turns up, knows the fight, and does not stand in the thing!

Trust is the big thing here, you trusting them and them trusting you, it won't happen overnight but when it does, ohh boy is it awesome :D

Good luck!
