Oct 7th 2010 10:44AM At the end of the day...its really about the data being flawed. Blizzard just doesn't want there to be these Mega-Guilds...that's the reason there was a softcap at 500 to begin with. They tolerated guilds going above the number before because it didn't really make any difference. Now with the guild leveling system Mega-Guilds will be able to trivialize that system. IF they didn't work in the Hard cap...what you would see on most servers is that many guilds would choose to merge together to make a Mega-Guild. Smaller guilds would be crushed and eventually absorbed into these Larger wholes. What you would end up with at the end of the day would be only a few guilds on a server. Even with the Hard-cap...Guilds are still going to do this but at least now there's some kind of control system in place.
People have already mentioned in these comments that their guilds were planning to do exactly that. For Guilds like this change does suck...but it isn't blizzard you should be angry with...its the people that would choose to exploit this new system that deserve your wroth. They're the Bad Apples that are ruining the bunch.
Oct 7th 2010 5:24AM I think the whole "Many guilds have already broken into smaller guilds" notion is itself flawed. Yes, I'm sure that this is the case...but the second they broke into smaller guilds...they became different guilds so this change doesn't actually affect them. They just won't be able to reform into a Mega-Guild that trivializes the Guild Level System. Personally, I believe that most of these 500+ guilds have far less actual accounts...probably most don't reach more than 150 active accounts. Simple solution for those guilds: Limit the amount of alts each Person can have in the guild...set up an alt guild for the rest.
Now, For Icftb and similar situations...I do kind of feel bad for you in that case because it kind of breaks up your community a little....but there are ways to overcome that.
Guild2Guild is an addon that enables guild chat between two or more guilds. Also, its easy enough to set up a new Chat Channel and have all the members of the guild alliance use that instead of Guild Chat. If a change like this breaks your community...than it wasn't very strong to begin with.
I do think that it would be a good Idea for Blizzard to create an actual Guild Alliance system, and maybe one day they will...but there's obviously way more important issues than that.
This Hard Cap of 600 may be slightly inconvenient to some...but it shouldn't be a game breaker.
