StarCraft II Contest 1: Win one of three copies of the game {Big Download}

Jul 28th 2010 1:41PM Since I can't afford it, this would be nice. Thanks for the opportunity!

Joyswag: Win a trip for two to PAX, courtesy of HotHead Games and DeathSpank {Joystiq}

Jul 22nd 2010 10:26PM This is probably my only chance at getting to PAX. So, here goes:

The Light and How to Swing It: Healing from the front line {WoW}

Jul 18th 2010 4:18PM This truly is going to change everything. Finally, I get to feel like the battle-cleric I've played in so many other RPGs instead of a priest in plate armor. There's a reason paladins have been considered the leaders of many groups.

I wonder if this is asking too much, but it would be nice to see Light of Dawn operate like priest's Holy Nova and do moderate holy damage. This way, even if we happen to miss that sweet spot, at least we contribute somehow through casting the spell.

E3 2010: We've arrived! {Joystiq}

Jun 13th 2010 6:45PM Enjoy the epic scoops this week! Jealous that I couldn't be there, but there's always next year. You're bringing us home souvenirs... right?

Where is the PC press conference at E3 2010? {Big Download}

Jun 13th 2010 6:39PM The thing is, I think the PC gaming industry has trouble with promotional events like this because it doesn't have a unified brand. Look at the console games: they all fall under the umbrella of Xbox, Nintendo, etc.

PCs, by their open source nature, have no recognizable brand to get behind. There isn't one single corporation developing these things. There are hundreds, not to mention the video card and processor producers.

I think the producers of PC hardware and perhaps software (games) are too worried about competing to survive in an uncertain market than working together to promote themselves. Unfortunately, it seems at this point that the last thing PC game producers want to do is collaborate, which might be why the PC Gaming Alliance is having trouble getting its feet off the ground.

Perhaps the Alliance should first motivate potential recruits with dealing with DRM and piracy -- create a standard for DRM and a zero-tolerance policy for piracy and stick to it -- before defining a unified brand for the industry.

I'm sure this is all more complicated than I can imagine, but I like to think I have a pretty good grip on why not much has happened.

Welcome to the latest Joystiq (we call it 'Futurestiq') {Joystiq}

Jun 11th 2010 2:28AM The site looks absolutely beautiful. Congratulations Chris and the rest of the Joystiq team! Not to mention the designers -- stunning work!

Keep up the great work, everyone. Can't wait for your E3 coverage, sorry I couldn't be there to join you folks this year.

Tell us what you like about Aika Online, and win a video card courtesy of Massively and Gala-Net! {Massively}

Jun 11th 2010 2:17AM I love the visuals best as well the incredibly dense environments. An MMO is always best when it naturally feels alive through good environment design and little touches like particle effects.

Dungeon Fighter Online launches in North America {Joystiq}

Jun 10th 2010 11:36AM This is one of the few MMOs to actually drag me away from WoW for an extended period. It really is a ton of fun, just ignore the ridiculous storyline and enjoy the amazingly deep combat and beautiful sprites.

Not to mention it runs on nearly anything. Had on my Asus Eee PC netbook at around 30 FPS. However, I do warn that I can get a bit grindy, which is why it's best enjoyed with a solid group of friends over Ventrilo or whatever chat client you use.

Dungeon Fighter Online previews class awakenings {Massively}

Jun 9th 2010 1:05AM I must say, this game has gotten me away from my shameful WoW addiction long enough to consider making the full time switch.

It really is a blast to just play, but I recommend grabbing a few friends and hopping on the Ventrilo to revive some of the classic brawler feel. Just doesn't feel the same with cold, distant PuGs filled with silent strangers.

Breakfast Topic: Design a unique healing spell {WoW}

Apr 9th 2010 9:26AM Being a Holy Paladin, I would love to see more done with what I call "splash healing". I absolutely love the effect of Glyph of Holy Light. If this were ramped and turned into a new talent or something inherent to the spell, this would solve much of the Holy Paladin AoE healing woes.

Not to mention how well it would fit into the Holy aesthetic: surges of holy light in quick, massive bursts that would quite literally overflow from the main target into his surroudning teammates. That double tracked sound effect from the GoHL is satisfying alone to make this a reality.
