My year long quest to defeat Grandia 2's (almost) final boss {Joystiq}

Mar 28th 2012 9:34PM This makes me want to pull out my dreamcast and brush off my copy...

That said I never really had a problem with the last boss, if I had known it had the reputation of being that difficult I would have been far more proud of myself for doing it.

Grandia 2 is one of my favourite RPG's ever. I really wish JRPG's would stop trying to "evolve" and just go back to their straight traditional turn based roots. I am looking at you FFXIII.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition arrives this summer [update: more news!] {Joystiq}

Mar 15th 2012 3:54PM @Punkrawk Bbob

I don't understand why people think THAC0 is so much harder. I don't see how subtraction is any more difficult than addition.

Also if for some reason they decided to change the ruleset that the game uses, it is a lot more likely that they would go with 4e as it is the current D&D ruleset.... and making this game 4e would pretty much kill any excitement I otherwise would have had for the game.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition arrives this summer [update: more news!] {Joystiq}

Mar 15th 2012 3:51PM As long as they stick with the 2e ruleset that is already in place with the game and don't try to switch it up to something stupid like 4e.

I know people like to complain about THAC0 but it's not like you will be doing the rolls yourself in the game, the game takes care of all that for you.

Hell even if you were doing the rolls... THAC0 isn't even hard, unless you think grade school level subtraction is difficult for some reason.

Endless Space is new 4X strategy game from ex-Ubi, EA devs {Joystiq}

Mar 12th 2012 1:42PM !!!!!!

4x space games are probably my favourite genre, so excited to see a good new one come out.

Rumor: 'Army of Four' exposed via Twitter {Joystiq}

Mar 4th 2012 3:00PM @dreamsloth

I don't see how you can say it is an "uncouth" thing to do. The man posted on Twitter that he is working on a game that none of us knew existed, he posted it on Twitter for Gods sake. If you post something like that in a public domain like Twitter you deserve to have your name plastered everywhere.

If someone signs an NDA and then breaks it in a public domain like Twitter, then I absolutely do not feel sorry for them if they receive some form of punishment. They violated terms of a contract they signed knowing what the consequences are.

Not sure why you are upset about the fact that Joystiq "outed" them.

Report: Baldur's Gate site teases Beamdog-developed franchise project [Update] {Joystiq}

Feb 29th 2012 1:03PM I would LOVE to see an HD version of BG1 and BG2.

Not sure how they would update the mechanics though, they use the 2ed D&D rulesets, unless they were going to change it all to 4e or something (which would be a mistake and would take forever).

So basically as long as they keep the gameplay systems in place, but make it look purdy. I am there!

Twisted Metal review: On cruise control {Joystiq}

Feb 14th 2012 2:25PM @Janitor

It's a lot different than the original MNC, a lot more of a MOBA style game (ie DoTA, LoL). More focus on leveling, not feeding the other team, etc. No one shot kills outside of ring outs, more focus on roles instead of just classes. You pick a class at the start of the match and are stuck with it.

Also it is free to play and PC only. So if you are a console gamer you are pretty much SOL. That said the beta is great, it's a MOBA style game, without a lot of the elitism that goes with it (yet). The game on a whole feels more strategic.

So if you mostly liked MNC for the shooter aspects you will probably disappointed, as it has gone less shooter, and more RPG this time around.

Personally I love it.

Twisted Metal review: On cruise control {Joystiq}

Feb 14th 2012 12:41PM @Sh1fty

It's easy to say that every video game should strive to have an engaging and interesting story, but honestly.... it's Twisted Metal, if you are coming to it looking for story, you are coming for the wrong reasons.

The most fun I had playing Twisted Metal games when I was younger involved bringing my buddies over, drinking a lot of alcohol, and playing split screen multiplayer all night long. I really never cared about the story.

Feb 14th 2012 12:36PM It saddens me that we are at a point where people think that a game that gets 3/3.5 stars is a bad game.

3/3.5 means it is a good game, but it is not necessarily for everyone, and probably has some flaws, but on the whole, it is still a well made game.

That said I am poor and stricken for time right now, so as much as I might want this, I will have to pass. Also I just started playing the Super Monday Night Combat beta, so that has me rather hooked.
