The Light and How to Swing It: Tanking Blackwing Descent for paladins, part 1 {WoW}

Apr 29th 2011 7:00PM Thanks for the article.

I have recently got my paladin tank up to 85 and have started doing a few heroics. Despite levelling as prot and never even trying ret or holy, I have never raided as a tank and I have a question about how threat works when I am not the only tank.

I assume that Righteous Fury stays up the whole time, so how does a prot paladin damage the boss without stealing aggro back from the second tank when it is his turn to tank the boss?

Is it simply a case of continue to beat the boss with the normal tanking rotation, but as the other tank has taunted to take the boss, they will have a higher threat level?

This is something that I am always curious about and I guess here is a good place to ask.

Thanks for any help! :)

Spiritual Guidance: Macros for healing priests {WoW}

Apr 19th 2011 6:48AM I think either I am misunderstanding what a lot of people are talking about... or possibly others are misunderstanding how some people heal.

I have not yet set up any mouseover macros, but I certainly don't find a target, click to select them, THEN press a keyboard key to heal as some people are suggesting as the alternative!
I simply have grid set up with clique so that left click on a grid unit frame is heal, right click is renew, and so on. This is how I thought Dawn was explaining her heals vs mouseovers. It appears that some commenters thought that it was a case of selecting a target by clicking on them, then pressing a keyboard key to heal them... which admittedly does seem like extra hassle than what is necessary.

I generally have the boss targeted so that I can see the boss cast bar and click on grid to heal people as needed as I don't require to have a target selected to be able to heal them.
However, one mouseover macro I am interested in using is one so that I can hover the mouse over a unit frame group in a raid and cast Prayer of Healing on that group rather than always defaulting to healing the 5 players from my own group. Would that work?

Lastly for a question...
Are there any good macros to be able to manage the chakra spells? Can I use Holy Word: Serenity as a normal macro so I can put it on a mousebind for clique? I currently select my target first, then press a keyboard key to cast Holy Word: Serenity which is a very inelegant way to casting it I admit!
Alternatively, can I use a macro to always cast Holy Word: Serenity on a focus target if I have no other targets selected at that time and want to heal the tank with that spell 9/10 times?

Anyway, thanks for these macros Dawn. I have never really used many in the past, but ones like the Shadowfiend one look ideal. My shadowfiend is often just hanging around after tickling a mob rather than attacking the next one, so will be good to force a bit of work out of the lazy bugger! :)

Spiritual Guidance: Priest healing strategies for Maloriak and Nefarian {WoW}

Mar 21st 2011 7:44PM Wow, I must have missed the memo that said that all people with a level 85 must be decked out in full epics and have finished all current raids!

Thanks Dawn for these articles. I do not have all the time in the world for playing and am still enjoying heroic 5 mans for the time being. I hope to be able to raid with my priest in the future and when I do, I am glad that these articles will exist so that I can read them and learn how to best approach the encounter.

Patch 4.0.6 PTR notes updated for Jan. 12 {WoW}

Jan 13th 2011 12:46PM Ahh, I just meant for any temporary spell buffs, not buffs as in improvements to the class. Since patch 4 if you use a buff addon such as satrina buff frames, Blizzard has removed the functionality to be able to remove buffs by right clicking on them.
It looks like this change will allow users with buff addons to be able to right click remove which will be a welcome change!

Patch 4.0.6 PTR notes updated for Jan. 12 {WoW}

Jan 13th 2011 7:04AM Interesting changes, particularly glad to see the buffs to holy priests.

I have a question though about the Addon changes they made though:

- Canceling buffs are only restricted during combat.

Does this mean that we can now right click and remove buffs even if we are using a buff addon, except for during combat?
It has been slightly irritating not being able to right click remove buffs due to "Blizzard shenanigans" and with an increased duration of Levitate to 10 minutes, it was set to become even more so.
I hope this is the case

Spiritual Guidance: Holy Priest 101, part 2 {WoW}

Jan 10th 2011 6:17PM Wonderful, thanks for this guide. I just got enough gear to be able to start heroics about 5 minutes ago so perfect timing! :)
Looking forward to seeing the disc guide soon too.

The Queue: Late is better than never {WoW}

Dec 9th 2010 10:19AM There are free transfers out of some of the most popular EU realms at the moment. I just transferred to Ragnaros-EU last week and had to queue to play for the first time ever on Tuesday. Queue was about 20 minutes, but no problem logging in yesterday so I am sure it's just a temporary issue.

Reader UI of the Week: Ráge's UI {WoW}

Oct 20th 2010 11:19AM I admittedly don't like having both Grid and Decursive, but I am rather limited on options for Clique with so many other spells bound to my buttons. I also like the simple left/right click for removing diseases and magic debuffs. If I can find a way to do it all through Grid, I would love to swap over, I will check out GridStatusRaidDebuff and try to organise my debuffing too.
Thanks for the help.

Reader UI of the Week: Ráge's UI {WoW}

Oct 20th 2010 10:58AM I agree, I got this addon a few months ago and it works great to let the raid know that I have used a certain ability.

Reader UI of the Week: Ráge's UI {WoW}

Oct 20th 2010 10:55AM No, my whole UI got kind of funked up with 4.0.1.
Hopefully, Blizzard will allow addon authors to implement this function, or alternatively allow us to move and style the default buff icons. I was using Bison simply to set the padding at a negative number so that I can have the buffs grow from left to right, rather than right to left as Blizzard dictates. Oh and ButtonFacade too of course! :)
